We have an exciting opportunity for 2 Trainee Highway Inspectors to join our Highway Maintenance Team. The Council is required under its statutory duty as local highway authority to maintain all highways which are under its control and to co-ordinate utility works to minimise disruption on the highway network ensuring that works are carried out in accordance with street works legislation and associated Codes of Practice.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals to play a key role in delivering these duties through highway and street works inspections identifying highway maintenance needs monitoring of utilities contractors and other third parties such as developers and liaison with all highway users including the public as well as Council Members.

We have developed a Career Progression Pathway with 3 stages with a well-defined framework for progression through the stages which would be subject to meeting the competency-based evidence at review. Successful candidates will be fully supported on their career path with rewarding work-related development and where applicable day release training at college.

  2. Assistant Highway Inspector Band F Salary 27711 - 30060
  3. Highways Inspector Band H Salary 35235 - 37938

About the candidate:

The candidate should consider what personal attributes they can offer to work within a Highways Team setting. In addition each candidate should be able to work in an agile manner to meet the needs of the service. The candidate must display good interpersonal skills and be able to work with colleagues. Training will be provided at all grades depending on experience and qualifications.

The successful candidates would need to be prepared and available to Enrol on L4 Civil Engineering Tech course and imminent start date in September 2025.
