The Mechanical Power Conversion (MPC) business unit presents a unique opportunity for a strategic leaderinterested in participating and influencing all aspects of the technical program and operations management of multiple product lines. Located in Rockford Illinois MPC is a roughly $200 M/year business supplying gearboxes fuel and lubrication pumps air turbine starters and blowers to engine manufactures and airframers.
As the Pump Sustaining Engineering Manager you will own all pump product sustainment activities.Your accountability includes field investigations MRB assignment supplier requests supplier transitions part redesigns and cost reductions for products that are currently in production or in the field. You will report to the Pump Product Engineering Manager and play a key role in MPCs successful execution and support of in-service product.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Lead and coach individual contributors on technical project execution and risk and opportunity management.
Be the MPC representative with key customers to develop relationship and understand customer and market driven needs to meet demands in support of current production.
Own the MPC pump sustaining standard work. Responsible for updating swim lanes to account for discipline updates and project owned activities with Lessons Learned Endorsed Practices and product line feedback.
Coordinate
Oversee the administrative and operational aspects of ongoing projects. This includes active participation in internal design reviews keeping in communication on each programs status and ensuring project risks industrial considerations and other key metrics are not being sidelined during the project execution.
Resource management within the pump sustaining team. This includes cross training and succession planning within the organization for key roles/skill sets. Evaluating staffing needs pursuing and recruiting for both full time and co-ops to ensure department needs are met.
Work across the organization to identify and implement training and standards.
Identify track and manage mitigation plans for risks across pump product lines
Resolve Supplier Requests for Information (SRIs) by providing clarifications and processing Change Requests (CRs)
Manage piece part supplier transitions
Estimate and track project budget and schedule utilizing EVMS decision making
Pursue cost saving opportunities to maximize product line profitability.
Consolidate and present plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the team
Support Quality investigations as necessary when piece-part issues affect product deliveries.
Verify internal processes are being executed to reduce probability of engineering turnbacks.
Read and interpret drawings provide mark ups and coordinate drawing changes
Feedback production issues and observations to the New Products team to support design and process improvements.
Confidently provide clear concise communications with peers and Collins leadership.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:
Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree 14 years of relevant experience.
10 years of mechanical power conversion experience.
8 years of technical leadership experience.
QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:
Bachelors degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or other relevant technical discipline.
Advanced degree(s) in business management and/or technical discipline.
Project Management Professional certification.
Program management or customer facing experience.
Ability toobtain a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
Collaborative leadership behaviors that emphasize high goal setting team empowerment and providing support.
Proven ability to facilitate difficult conversations and communicate early and concisely with individuals at all organizational levels.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.
Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience using analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively identify and resolve issues and mitigate risks.
Ability to remain focused under pressure to assess and resolve challenges.
