Job Title: Maintenance Porter Transitional Housing Shelter
Location: New Rochelle NY
Hourly Rate Range: $22.00 -/hour
Job Type: Full-Time On-Site
Schedule: May include weekends and evenings
Reports to: Director of Operations / Facility Manager
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Maintenance Porter to join our facilities team at a transitional housing shelter serving families and children in New Rochelle NY. The Maintenance Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness safety and overall upkeep of the shelter and surrounding property ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for residents staff and visitors.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform daily cleaning of common areas including hallways bathrooms offices and program spaces
Handle trash removal and recycling from designated areas throughout the facility
Sanitize high-touch surfaces regularly to maintain hygiene standards
Assist with light maintenance tasks including minor repairs painting and furniture assembly
Respond promptly to staff requests for maintenance or clean-up assistance
Monitor and replenish cleaning and janitorial supplies as needed
Perform routine inspections to identify and report maintenance issues to supervisors
Support emergency cleanup efforts as needed (e.g. spills flooding snow removal)
Assist in room turnovers including cleaning furniture setup and basic repairs
Ensure outdoor areas (sidewalks entryways etc.) are kept clean and free of debris or hazards
Follow safety procedures and wear protective equipment as required
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
At least 1 2 years of custodial janitorial or general maintenance experience
Basic knowledge of cleaning products and tools; ability to safely use maintenance equipment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs stand/walk for extended periods and perform physical tasks
Dependable punctual and able to work independently or as part of a team
Good communication skills and a respectful attitude toward shelter residents
Prior experience in a residential shelter or institutional setting is a plus
$22.00 per hour
