Job Summary:
This temporary Database Administrator 3 position supports the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI) database environment serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Power BI reporting modernization. The role requires significant independent judgment in data administration and management focusing on converting complex SAS programs to optimized SQL code for seamless integration with Power BI. The ideal candidate will possess strong collaboration problem-solving and communication skills working directly with business users and stakeholders to analyze data improve processes and build sustainable data pipelines.
Location: Lansing Michigan United States
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with customers to understand current Power BI usage including identifying dashboards reports and underlying data sources.
- Review and analyze existing SAS programs converting them to optimized SQL code for Power BI reporting.
- Apply advanced SAS and SQL knowledge to ensure logic accuracy performance and consistency across data platforms.
- Assess and document current data processes recommending improvements and automation opportunities.
- Work with stakeholders to identify data sources ETL processes and transformation logic for reporting needs.
- Build and maintain robust sustainable data pipelines prioritizing clarity performance and long-term maintainability.
- Leverage Power BI Desktop Power Query DAX and PowerBook tools for data modeling development and visualization.
- Apply problem-solving skills to debug validate and optimize ETL and data transformation processes.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences documenting processes and collaborating across teams.
- Work independently delivering high-quality work with accuracy and a customer-focused mindset.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- 8 years of experience in database administration.
- Power BI Desktop Power Query DAX and PowerBook tools experience.
- SQL Database ETL experience.
- SAS and SQL Data Modeling skills.
- Bachelors Degree.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

Special Considerations:
- Hybrid work schedule required; two days per week onsite from day one. No fully remote option.

Scheduling:
- 40 hours per week.
- 12-week contract (July 7th 2025 - September 26th 2025). The end date is firm.
- Hybrid schedule (two days per week onsite).
