Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Under general supervision plans coordinates and directs the actionsof the security staff and oversees security custody and control ofinmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
- Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings andpublic property.
- Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensuresubordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely andthat cleanliness andOSHA standards are maintained.
- Assists with allinmate counts for accuracy.
- Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
- This position will be assigned to housing unit F-2.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks SCDC Basic Training upon hire.Minimum and Additional Requirements
- State of South Carolina MinimumRequirements:A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelors degree in a related field may be substitute for the required experience.SCDC MinimumRequirements:(Or an acceptable equivalency approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
- Three (3) years of experience in correctional security military or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above 1 year).
- Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
