Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The goal of the Instructional Coach is to improve and sustain student academic achievement by promoting a culture for learning across all content areas. The primary role of the Instructional Coach is to support teachers with targeted professional learning coaching lesson modeling and access to evidence-based instructional strategies that can be used to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of at-risk learners. The Instructional Coach will collaborate with teachers and campus instructional leaders to analyze student data and progress monitor student achievement to identify areas of need and adjust instructional practices. The Instructional Coach will ensure at-risk students including Other Special populations such as homeless foster-care etc are receiving the differentiated instructional supports needed to improve academic achievement. In addition the Instructional Coach will support the development implementation and progress monitoring of the campus intervention system to ensure the effectiveness of the interventions and adjust as needed for continued progress.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned

Bilingual or ESL Certification required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Deep knowledge of research-based reading strategies and best teaching practices

Understanding of curriculum assessments and data analysis to align instruction

Knowledge of writing strategies across the content areas

Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) and State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR)

Provide resources and job embedded professional learning through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

Strong computer/ technology skills (Microsoft Office Google SharePoint)

Ability to create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of all students

Strong interpersonal Communication/Presentation skills needed to promote peer coaching and model instructional lessons

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide support to teachers with professional learning opportunities to enhance and refine instructional practices.
  1. Assist the campus instructional leader with the implementation of core reading programs and interventions for continuous improvement.
  1. Provide job embedded professional learning opportunities to teachers on campus/district initiatives.
  1. Model the use of technologies in the planning teaching/learning and assessment process including iPads.
  1. Work collaboratively with the at-risk student population education teachers to modify/enhance curriculum as needed for students (IEP LPAC).
  1. Assist teachers with the selection of instructional resources to meet individual academic and literacy needs.
  1. Support and assist with campus intervention teams as needed.
  1. Model/demonstrate inquiry based-rigorous lessons for teachers that are planned
  1. Assist teachers to differentiate instruction in core content areas to target at-risk population.
  1. Work collaboratively with the campus instructional leaders department/grade level chairs and central office staff to effectively meet the campus needs and goals.
  1. Gather and assist in analyzing data writing required state and federal reports and administer and interpret assessment data to determine adequate progress or those in need of supplemental or intensive intervention.
  1. Become familiar with the administration and interpretation of in-depth diagnostic measures or additional assessments required by state and federal to assist with the at-risk student.
  1. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues students parents and community members.
  1. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  1. Participate and demonstrate an initiative in the campus and district professional development to increase the individuals skill and proficiency related to the job responsibilities.
  1. Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
  1. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required. Maintain a calendar reflecting coaching activities and scheduled meetings and submit required documentation including but not limited to coaching logs classroom visit forms teacher support coaching work plans and other resources as required by the funding source.
  1. Attend and participate in department and faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator) in accordance with funding source guidelines.
