Job Description

Introduction

The Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is a community-based organisation providing settlement migration and other forms of assistance to refugees migrants and other vulnerable people of concern.

As a member of our team you will be supporting new arrivals in South Australia to achieve their social economic cultural and community participation goals. You will be making a difference in the lives of individuals and families as they re-establish themselves in a new home.

About the Role

ARAs Settlement Services equip and empower refugees and recently arrived migrants to address their settlement needs with a focus on improving social participation economic wellbeing independence personal wellbeing and community connectedness. Services include provision of settlement related information advice advocacy and assistance to access mainstream and other relevant services.

ARAs Financial Capability Programs help newly arrived individuals and families by helping them navigate the complexities of Australias financial systems. This position is essential in fostering financial independence and stability among newcomers ensuring they can integrate successfully into Australian society. ARAs financial capability programs for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse clients are currently run in collaboration with Uniting Care Wesley Bowden (UCWB).

The Settlement Case Manager / Financial Capability Worker provides person centred and strength based support for clients within ARAs Settlement and Financial Capability programs. This includes individualised case management support and support delivered in group settings.

The main responsibilities and tasks for this role include:

Settlement Case Management

  • Providing comprehensive case managed settlement services to clients including needs assessment goal setting and implementation of support plans.
  • Assisting clients with accessing essential services such as housing healthcare education employment and legal assistance.
  • Advocating on behalf of clients to ensure their rights are protected and that they have access to the resources they need for successful integration.
  • Building strong relationships with community organizations government agencies and other stakeholders to facilitate access to resources and support networks for clients.
  • Delivering culturally appropriate support that considers the unique experiences and challenges faced by refugees and recently arrived migrants.
  • Maintaining accurate case notes records and reports to track client progress and ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Participating in team meetings training sessions and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge related to refugee resettlement issues.

Financial Capability Work

  • Deliver financial literacy workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions to educate newcomers on budgeting saving banking and credit management.
  • Provide information on available financial resources including government assistance programs community grants and other support services.
  • Advocate for clients financial rights and connect them with relevant services and organizations.
  • Provide referrals to financial counsellors and other relevant services.
  • Collaborate with community groups and stakeholders to promote financial well-being and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress to ensure effective service delivery in accordance with both ARA and UCWB requirements.

The role is offered on a fixed term to 30 June 2026 aligned with available government funding on a part time basis 4 days per week classified at Level 3 of the SCHADS Award.

You will also hold a Diploma of Community Services or be close to completion of this qualification. A Diploma of Financial Counselling is not essential but will be highly regarded.
