Locations:

Air & Space Museum - 7711 E Academy Blvd Denver CO 80230 (primary)

Exploration of Flight - 13005 Wings Way Englewood CO 80112

Off-site locations (as necessary)


Status & Classification: Regular Full-Time Non-Exempt


Payrate: $26 $30/hour (depending on experience)


Work Schedule: Monday Friday* 8:30am 5pm* 40 hours/week

*This position must accommodate a flexible work schedule including weekends evenings special events off-site field work and occasional out-of-town travel.

Summary
The Aerospace STEAM Instructor is responsible for accomplishing Wings Over the Rockies educational mandate and responsibilities particularly in promoting and expanding student achievement related to Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics (STEAM). As a member of the Education department this position works closely with the Education Program Coordinator Education & Outreach Specialist Aerospace Educators volunteers and seasonal Summer Camp staff. The Aerospace STEAM Instructor reports to the Director of Education.

Organization
Founded in 1994 on the former Lowry Air Force Base in east Denvers historic Lowry Field neighborhood Wings Over the Rockies is a non-profit community organization dedicated to unlocking dreams of flight through exhibits local events and educational programming. We are Colorados official Air & Space Museum having been recognized by CNN Travel as one of their 20 Best aviation museums in the world. Each year we welcome over 160000 visitors representing all 50 states and dozens of countries internationally. Wings is committed to diversity inclusion and accessibility. The Museum boasts more than 100000 sq. ft. of open hangar space full of iconic aircraft space vehicles historical artifacts and more. Visitors can experience thrilling flight simulators discover educational programs and participate in one of our many exciting Museum-sponsored events.


Exploration of Flight (EoF) is our flight-focused educational extension. This 15-acre campus is located at the Centennial Airport where we offer showcase events with a variety of aircraft aviation immersion programs pilot ground training and flight experiences. EoF is home to our Blue Sky Gallery exhibit and interactive aviation center featuring an airworthy fleet of civilian and military aircraft.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Please Note this list is not all inclusive but intended to be a general outline of the essential duties for this position.

  • Teach students ages 8 18 in Aerospace and STEAM lessons in a variety of classroom settings at both Wings Museum locations and throughout the Denver Metro area
  • Create and teach multiple middle school and high school classes centered on project-based hands-on learning in Aerospace and STEAM subjects
  • Work with the Education team to design and implement onsite and offsite programs including the Wings Aerospace Exploration (WAE) Pathways summer camps workshops winter break camps and other educational activities and events
  • Assist in developing and implementing WAE curriculum
  • Maintain organize and inventory the storage of curriculum and classroom supplies

Working Conditions

The Air & Space Museum operates in an 80-year-old aircraft hangar. Exploration of Flight is located at a busy regional airport. Environmental conditions may vary.

Requirements
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older
  • Bachelors degree in Education Aerospace or a similar field
  • Teacher License highly preferred
  • Prior work experience in STEAM education or related field particularly at the middle and/or high school level
  • Wide-range of STEAM skills including 3D printing and design resin printer usage and maintenance laser-cutting multiple visualization programs such as SolidWorks TinkerCAD Blender Fusion 360 or similar is preferred
  • Knowledge of aerospace principles current events and trends particularly in relation to aerospace education
  • Self-motivated energetic outcome-oriented individual who demonstrates strong interpersonal skills centered around teamwork
  • Ability to take initiative and work creatively
  • Excellent organizational communication and planning skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to deal professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience and a wide range of contacts at different levels
  • Commitment to social inclusion and making the Museum accessible to a wide-ranging audience
  • Commitment to the Mission of the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a quickly-changing environment
  • Must have reliable personal transportation and a clean driving record (MVR)
  • Able to squat/lift/carry objects and push/pull carts weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • CPR/First Aid certified preferred
