District: Vance County Schools
Location: Henderson North Carolina
Employment Type: Full-Time 12-Month Position

About the Opportunity

Job Title: Principal Principal of a STEM-Focused Early High School (Grades 68)
Reports To: Superintendent or Designee
Salary: Based on district administrator scale
Work Schedule: 12 months

Position Overview:

The Principal of STEM Early High School a STEM-focused middle school provides visionary leadership in fostering a rigorous innovative and inclusive learning environment. This role ensures a seamless integration of STEM principles across the curriculum while also expanding access to advanced coursework that offers high school credit opportunities for eligible students. The Principal serves as the instructional leader and is responsible for the overall management safety and academic success of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a STEM-focused instructional program that emphasizes inquiry-based learning project-based approaches and real-world applications.

  • Ensure that high school credit courses (e.g. Algebra I Earth/Environmental Science World Language I) are rigorous standards-aligned and taught by appropriately certified staff.

  • Monitor student performance and use data to drive continuous improvement in instruction and program design.

  • Promote inclusive practices that meet the needs of diverse learners including students with disabilities multilingual learners and gifted students.

Curriculum & Program Development:

  • Oversee the alignment of curriculum to state standards and STEM competencies.

  • Collaborate with district leaders to expand high school course offerings and monitor student readiness and success.

  • Cultivate partnerships with local high schools universities and STEM industries to enhance student opportunities.

School Culture & Equity:

  • Create a positive inclusive and safe school climate where every student feels valued and challenged.

  • Promote equitable access to advanced coursework extracurricular STEM clubs and enrichment opportunities.

  • Lead initiatives that address social-emotional development and the transitional needs of middle school students.

Staff Supervision & Development:

  • Recruit support and evaluate high-quality educators with an emphasis on STEM expertise and instructional innovation.

  • Foster professional learning communities and collaborative planning structures.

  • Provide ongoing professional development focused on culturally responsive teaching STEM integration and instructional strategies for advanced learners.

Operations & School Management:

  • Oversee scheduling student placement and resource allocation to ensure optimal learning experiences.

  • Ensure compliance with district state and federal policies including those related to high school credit and instructional minutes.

  • Manage school budgets facilities and technology to support STEM learning environments.

Community Engagement:

  • Build strong relationships with families local businesses higher education institutions and community partners.

  • Promote family engagement in STEM education and middle-to-high school transition planning.

  • Serve as the face of the school and advocate for its mission vision and student success.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Educational Leadership or related field (required)

  • Valid principal license/certification in the state of State (required)

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience preferably in STEM or middle grades

  • Minimum of 3 years of administrative or leadership experience in a school setting

  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting advanced coursework for middle school students

  • Strong knowledge of STEM pedagogy differentiated instruction and inclusive practices

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience managing a school with high school credit-bearing courses

  • Familiarity with Project Lead the Way or similar programs

  • Strong data analysis problem-solving and communication skills

  • Ability to inspire innovation and creativity in both staff and students
