In this role you will serve as a Data Center Design Manager influencing all aspects of data center design construction and equipment qualification. You will work with internal and external teams to define design and implement complex infrastructure projects that power AWSs global presence. As an owner you will ensure our facilities meet the highest standards of quality reliability and efficiency while driving innovation in our design and construction processes.

Primary responsibilities will include leading project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs globally within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality and leading the equipment qualification process. Youll develop and maintain scalable mechanisms to integrate diverse teams ensuring all power and cooling equipment undergoes proper qualification testing. The ability to coordinate across architectural structural electrical and mechanical disciplines while managing relationships with material suppliers and contractors will be essential.

As a technical leader you will ensure that contractors have the information they need to build our data centers to AWS standards and that our operations teams are well-equipped to maintain them effectively. Youll work closely with internal and external stakeholders including design teams construction managers commissioning agents operations personnel vendors and local building officials. You will be part of a global team transforming how cloud infrastructure is designed and delivered.


Key job responsibilities
Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver data center designs within schedule and cost constraints
Oversee the complete equipment qualification process ensuring alignment across various teams and adherence to technical operational safety quality reliability and business requirements on a global scale
Develop and sustain a scalable mechanism to seamlessly integrate diverse teams and ensure that all power and cooling equipment undergo the required qualification tests
Collaborate with architectural structural electrical and mechanical disciplines as well as material suppliers to deliver high-quality designs that support favorable business outcomes
Manage relationships with internal stakeholders operations teams and external consultants
Drive innovation in design and construction processes to reduce costs and improve efficiency
Create and maintain global best practice documentation
Oversee project metrics related to schedule cost and quality
Travel for site assessments internal design meetings construction review and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%. International travel may be needed.



About the team

The Data Center Design Engineering team at Amazon Web Services consists of Architects Structural Mechanical Electrical Civil Fire Protection and Controls Engineers working to design the next generation of Data Centers. The team is committed to achieving a world-class uptime for our customers and strives to develop a fleet of buildings emphasizing security safety and efficiency while finding new ways to meet our growing demand. We justify and communicate the technical decisions we make directly to AWS leadership and work hard to drive continuous advancements in our designs. Bachelors degree in Engineering Arch or related field
6 years of design experience in commercial / industrial / other complex technical projects
5 years of mission-critical facility design or technical program management experience. 3 years of project management experience including scope schedule budget and risk management


Professional Engineering or Architectural License
10 years of data center design construction or operations experience
Strong knowledge of industry standards building codes and regulatory requirements
Ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers develop basic business case financial projections and create performance metrics

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
