In collaboration with administrators and other staff the Student Engagement & Retention Specialist supports high school students who are at-risk for not completing a diploma program. This position works directly with students to connect them to schools and programs and to support their progress toward graduation.
Essential Functions
1. Work directly with students and families to link them with eligible District community and governmental resources and programs.
2. Communicate with students who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out to re-engage them with OCSD schools and programs assisting in their transition.
3. Encourage student and parent engagement in school activities through regular interactions and follow-up support.
4. Consult with staff to coordinate student support and intervention plans.
5. Promote and facilitate parent involvement in the creation of student success plans and interventions.
6. Maintain accurate files related to assigned students or programs and supports provided.
7. Retrieve analyze and prepare data reports related to engagement and retention efforts as requested.
8. Assist with the implementation of approved programs that support student progress towards completing a high school diploma or equivalent.
9. Assist with the identification of students in need of additional support and provide relevant information to those who are assessing student academic needs.
10. Develop student academic and vocational plans and monitor progress towards completion.
11. Participate in required meetings and training related to the position.
12. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
13. May be asked to provide support and mentorship to students outside of the school setting in coordination with other school staff.
14. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
15. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to exercise some independent judgment while adhering to prescribed policies and procedures and perform the essential functions of the position with minimal supervision.
2. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships and work in partnership with supervisors other staff students and the general public.
3. Ability to work effectively interact with and respond to people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
4. Ability to demonstrate professionalism in dress speech and manner appropriate to the assignment and work setting.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
6. Ability to follow district policies and procedures at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Two years of experience in a post-secondary educational program.
3. Successful experience working with students in a K-12 setting.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
4. Proficient oral and written communication skills in English.
5. Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications including but not limited to email and systems applications.
6. Successful completion of criminal history records check as required by law.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Bilingual Spanish/English.
2. Experience with connecting students with school activities and programs.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER DAY: 8.0 HOURS PER DAY
NUMBER OF DAYS WORKED PER SCHOOL YEAR: 215 DAYS PER YEAR
HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $25.87 - $36.42 PER HOUR (RANGE 16)
