Primary Purpose:
Promote positive public relations between the school district and community. Prepare and provide information to the public about the activities goals and policies of the school district. Distribute pertinent information about the district and its activities to employees.
Responsible for working with representatives from various communities organizations and neighborhoods
with respect to the diverse populations and cultures.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelors Degree in Education Public Relations or related field
Masters Degree Preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to speak
confidently in public
Communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
Proficiency in PowerPoint social-media tools and the use of personal computer and software
Self-motivated with proficient organizational planning and reporting skills
Exceptional time management skills
Ability to project manage and coordinate activities and events
Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred
Experience:
Five years successful experience in the communications or public relations field
Three years in educational field preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Responsible for close coordination and communication with the district and community
- Promote positive media relations and coverage
- Provide necessary information support for all meetings of the Board of Education
- Conduct recognition programs for employees and students
- Represent the district in various community organizations
- Promote the development of collaborative initiatives between the schools and local business/industry
- Develop implement and refine plans that increase the level of meaningful community and family engagement in District and school planning and activities
- Provide accurate timely and complete marketing and public relations information concerning the District its personnel programs plans and activities
- Plan direct and coordinate the districts communications and information services designed to inform employees and the general public about what is happening in the schools and the community
- Assist the Superintendent in maintaining a supportive working relationship with members of the School Board so as to create a sound and systematic program of community relations and public information
- Maintain open communication channels on a continuous basis with all areas of the county including news media community organizations area businesses employees parents and Chamber of Commerce through frequent press releases and prompt responses to requests for information about the school district
- Serve as an advocate for the school district in improving public confidence and assuring support
- Act as a resource for designing printing and distributing district-wide publications
- Coordinate District-wide recognition programs for volunteers and Business Partners
- Establish and coordinate a Community Relations Advisory Council to assure accuracy of messages and feedback
- Serve as public relations counsel to the Board of Education Superintendent of School program administrators principals and citizen advisory committees
- Provide information and support for public events such as community forums and district ceremonies
- Defines and delivers communication activities to engage the community and generate support for district efforts such as levy and bond referendums
- Identifies and informs community leaders about district work
- Creates a climate of cooperation between the media and district for mutual benefit in the dissemination of news and information to public audiences at the local and national levels
- Active involvement in government relations and legislative activity
- Develops and implements marketing/branding plans for the district
- Provides training on customer services techniques to ensure employees maintain the districts positive public images
- Stays closely attuned to the entire budget making process and promotes community input. Develops budget/bond issue campaigns and publications
- Promotes the districts strengths/achievements and its solutions to problems
- Vigorously publicizes student and staff achievement; develops staff and retirement recognition programs
- Answer public and new resident requests for information; maintain extensive background files; keep districts historical and budget passage records; plan for school district anniversary celebrations
- Serve as the districts liaison with community groups such as civic associations and service clubs; helps plan/publicize districts parent senior citizen and community service programs. Develop ways to bring the community into the schools
- Email a summary of actions taken by the CISD Board after each regular Board Meeting to district staff area Chamber of Commerce the news media (when necessary) and publish on the districts web site
- Provide to the principals and other campus staff lists of media contacts and fax numbers helpful hints for writing news releases and guidelines for interactions with the media to assist with publicity efforts for their schools
- Field calls from reporters seeking information and interviews
- Supervise the districts scoreboard partnership program
- Other duties as assigned
- Serve as the information liaison between the school district and the community. Serve as district spokesperson and coordinate media coverage including preparing press releases and publishing articles and photos in local media and other publications.
- Ensure that public information activities contribute to the attainment of district goals and objectives.
- Design prepare and edit district publications including newsletters recruitment brochures programs for special events and other publications.
- Serve as district representative on community committees as required. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs including speaking at civic organization meetings and make presentations.
- Develop and publicize reports related to the performance of the district and articulate district goals and objectives.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy.
