Yakima Valley College seeks an Instructional & Classroom Support Technician 2. The Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 position supports the Dental Hygiene Program in the Workforce Education Division. This is a cyclic in person 10 - month full-time classified position with Leave Without Pay (LWOP) July through August of each year. Beginning salary is$3811.00 per month for 40 hours per week with periodic increments up to$5117.00 plus a full state benefits package.


Reporting to the Program Manager Workforce Education the Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 will perform a variety of tasks in support of the Dental Hygiene Program students staff and faculty. The Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 will demonstrate they are professionally interested in monitoring and assisting students served by the Dental Hygiene Program to facilitate student success. Under general supervision the successful incumbent will work in collaboration with college department faculty administrators and staff members; and perform work that requires knowledge of lab procedures materials equipment and other duties as assigned. Duties are performed in a Dental Hygiene lab/clinic environment. Some lifting (up to 50lbs.) will be required.

Essential Tasks

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Typical Office Work:

  • Research evaluate and make purchasing recommendations/decisions for dental equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborate with faculty and program staff by providing quotes for ordering supplies.
  • Maintain positive relationships with the public students faculty staff and administrators.
  • Represent assigned program(s) accurately and positively to all constituents.
  • Maintains Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) records manual and updates.
  • Import export and print radiographs.
  • HIPAA Risk Assessment and Compliance Security Officer responsibilities.
Program Specialization:
  • Facilitate clean and safe clinic and lab spaces.
  • Serve as HIPAA Risk Assessment and Compliance Security Officer maintains HIPPA procedures and documentation. Secures training for Dental Hygiene program. Follows all policies and procedures in the event of a HIPPA violation.
  • Manage patient screening schedules and track assignments to students.
  • Ensure required licensing testing record keeping and information posting associated with clinical equipment.
  • Monitor clinic to ensure compliance with HIPAA WISHA Washington State Infection Control Regulations Department of L & I and OSHA safety policy.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate SDS documentation.
  • Liaison with various technology support services and vendors to ensure optimal and continuous functioning of clinic equipment technology and software;
  • Coordinate disposal of sharps and hazardous wastes.
  • Complete clinic sterilization and infection control responsibilities including set up/close down operation testing (with required record keeping) and maintenance of all associated equipment and chemicals.
  • Check out clinic owned instruments and supplies.
  • Monitor launder stock and replace (as needed) all personal protective equipment.
  • Monitor stock and facilitate appropriate access to and storage of restorative carts and anesthetic supplies.
  • In collaboration with Dental Hygiene faculty support student instrument issue and instrument replacement process.
  • Perform professional/technical instructional support involving the use of technical and/or academic knowledge materials and techniques.
  • Provide instructional support to Dental Hygiene-related undergraduate courses requiring knowledge of dental hygiene field.
  • Provide demonstrations on use and maintenance of clinical equipment.
  • Prepare equipment materials and solutions for classwork projects.
  • Prepare demonstrations as requested by instructors.
  • Assist with laboratory or lecture demonstrations; confers with instructor in establishing and developing assignments.
  • Plan laboratory assignments and schedules.
  • Assist and advise students in laboratory assignments or in discipline subject matter; write edit or modify laboratory handouts or manuals.
  • Modify lab and clinic protocols; advises instructors of potential problems with existing programs.
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance and repairs on clinical laboratory and demonstration instruments and equipment; instruct student teaching assistants and faculty in the use of equipment.
  • Serve on department Safety Committee and assist in the development of safe laboratory procedures.
  • Monitor and maintains emergency drugs supplies and medical gasses.
  • Estimate quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed orders equipment and supplies accordingly.
  • Follow through with the purchasing department or procurement of supplies and maintains adequate stock levels;
  • Assist Dental Hygiene Director with preparations for CRDTS examinations i.e. orders food/catering prepare operatories.
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Assemble organize and interpret data.
  • Work closely with program faculty to support designated programs and the institution.
  • May work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
  • May support other Professional Technical programs as other duties assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Dental Assistant or able to obtain certificate within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • One year of experience in a dental office.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certified or able to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with office technology and software including Microsoft Excel Word etc.) and dental practice software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • An earned Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution.
  • Bilingual/Biliterate: English/Spanish.
  • Experience with dental materials/equipment.
ABILITY TO:
  • Concentrate for extended periods work with multiple interruptions and multitask.
  • Use computers including Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Communicate knowledge and skills in both oral and written forms to students who represent a broad spectrum of ages abilities ethnicity education and cultural backgrounds.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse faculty staff students public and community partners to create a positive work environment.
  • Self-manage and work independently to meet deadlines as necessary.
  • Analyze supply chain usage and trends.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Dental Assisting skills.
  • HIPPA and WISHA policies.
  • Dental office software and Microsoft Office Suite i.e. Word Excel PPT.
