$55386.00

Calendar:

Certified Exempt 187 workdays

Benefits:

New Hire Experience:

$500 for each full-time year of certified teaching or verified like experience

New Hire Education:

$65/hour of graduate level credits: BA 45 hours max MA 60 hours max $1000 for advanced degrees

Job Summary:

The Mesa Public Schools Social Studies Content Specialist provides leadership and support in instructional design professional learning and use of high quality resources to strengthen social studies teaching and student academic outcomes. Working collaboratively with educators and administrators this role ensures curriculum alignment to standards fosters effective teaching practices and supports continuous improvement across schools.


Candidates must complete an on-line application which requires appropriate Arizona certification valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card evidence of highly qualified status three letters of recommendation and transcript of credits.

Key Responsibilities:

This section outlines the primary duties and key responsibilities required for this role detailing the essential tasks and functions necessary to perform the job successfully with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Create support coordinate and facilitate the professional learning for new and continuing teachers coaches and administrators in the use of district materials curricula and state standards
  • Support high quality instruction through professional learning coaching demonstration teaching mentoring and assistance with teacher observation
  • Establish positive relationships and maintain open lines of communication with school-based (e.g. administrators coaches teachers etc.) and district-based (e.g. directors specialists etc.) staff
  • Collaborate and work effectively in a team setting with other content area specialists professional learning specialists instructional design & technology specialists and school improvement specialists
  • Facilitate in the evaluation development revision and communication of social studies curriculum
  • Coordinate the district-level instructional resource adoption process for elementary social studies
  • Facilitate and support the use of high quality instructional planning instructional strategies and assessment
  • Support the acquisition of high quality aligned instructional materials and oversee the procurement and stewardship of supplemental materials
  • Maintain state and national presence for MPS social studies programs through conference and committee participation and other appointments as they arise
  • Maintain current knowledge of instructional methodologies and pedagogy
  • Maintain a presence on MPS elementary campuses by regularly visiting teachers classrooms
  • Serve as liaison with the Arizona Department of Education local museums historical societies and civic organizations to strengthen real-world connections for students
  • Manage multiple projects under tight timelines with minimal supervision proactively communicating with all stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with district personnel
  • Assist with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Required Qualifications:

To be eligible for this position an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in education
  • Current Arizona teaching certificate with evidence of highly qualified status to teach social studies
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card

Experience:

  • Minimum five years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Three years of successful leadership experience at the school or district level preferred
  • Membership in professional organizations and affiliations preferred
  • Strong knowledge of State and National Social Studies Standards MPS social studies curricula and familiarity with MPS instructional program in social studies
  • Knowledge of national state and district trends concerning instructional methods resources and strategies
  • Experience analyzing student data and using it to guide instructional strategies
  • Evidence of proficiency with technology including presentation equipment word processing desktop publishing and collaborative tools (Google Workspace)
