Primary Purpose:
Plan and implement programs which will provide positive social and learning environments with a variety of experiences utilized to help students develop skills appropriate to their age and stage of development. Work in partnership with parents to promote the social emotional physical and cognitive development of Head Start children.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Minimum: Bachelors Degree
Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
Valid Texas teacher certificate
English as a Second Language (ESL) certification
Recent (within 12 months of hiring) physical exam and cleared tuberculosis test required
Current certification for First Aid and CPR (or ability to obtain)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Willing to be trained in Conscious Discipline and to implement in all situations with children
Willing to be trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention
CPR and First Aid required but may be obtained after employment
Ability to work well with children and families
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
Experience working with preschool age children in educational settings preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction:
- Provide a setting where students will feel free to interact with each other and with the teacher an appropriate and respectful manner
- Design and implement a physical environment which provides engaging center-based experiences including the use of manipulative and authentic materials
- Plan and conduct intentional teaching which effectively assists the student in the acquisition and application of new concepts knowledge and skills
- Implement researched based program-wide curriculum with fidelity
- Teach and prepare materials of instruction appropriate to the grade level and subject in keeping with the curriculum adopted by CSISD
- Assist in the selection and use of instructional materials and equipment
- Provide activities that will give all students the opportunity to develop in all areas of learning such as psychomotor cognitive and social/emotional
- Individualize instruction based on assessment information portfolio samples IEPs and observations to ensure success of all students
- Assess student progress in a meaningful fair and confidential manner using CSISD/OHS approved progress monitoring tool
- Maintain student records in a manner which assures that records are current accurate and confidential
- Consult a qualified professional for assistance if problems are suspected of affecting students school performance and development while maintaining confidentiality
- Align teaching practices with Early Education and district philosophies
Student Management:
- Use principles and practices of Conscious Discipline philosophy in all situations involving instruction and student management
- Supervise students throughout school day inside and outside the classroom; includes mealtime bus/car duty field trips and playground management
Family Partnerships:
- Provide confidential academic feedback for parents through initial home visit fall and spring parent conference final home visit and other meetings as necessary or requested
- Work with parents and volunteers to improve the instructional programs to meet the needs of all students
- Disseminate information to parents concerning better ways in which the student can be served through the school program or helped in the home
- Coordinate with Family Advocate to support whole family wellness
Case Management:
- Conduct initial home visit to begin relationship building and information gathering for all families
- Prioritize family needs with Family Advocate
- Participate in Case Management reviews and provides support follow up and documentation of efforts and resources provided to meet child/family needs
- Communicate any family information gained clearly and immediately to Family Advocate and teacher assistant
- Regularly input information in student data management system
Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to: Direct the work of paraprofessional instructional assistants as they work with students; cooperate with all Head Start staff to maintain positive and effective campus team; assist in planning and implementing staff development activities and special projects
- Participate and actively engage in professional development opportunities through workshops staff development conferences coaching college courses and other trainings to improve own professional performance
- Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by program or campus staff. Follow campus and district directives policies and procedures
- Always conduct oneself in a professional manner but especially during school hours and at school related events
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Teaching Assistants and classroom volunteers
