Job Description

Job Title:Food Service Coordinator
Reports To:Director of School Operations
Employment Status: Full Time Work Schedule: 200
FLSA Classification: Salary Exempt
Position summary
The Main Street Academy (TMSA) is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Food Service Coordinator to oversee the effective planning coordination and execution of the schools food service operations. This role is critical in ensuring that all students have access to safe nutritious and well-prepared meals in alignment with federal state and local regulations including USDA Child Nutrition Program standards.
The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for supervising the kitchen manager managing meal production and service ensuring food safety compliance maintaining accurate records and supporting menu planning and procurement. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational skills a passion for student nutrition and wellness and a commitment to operational excellence in a school setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the operations of the School Nutrition Program (SNP) in compliance with all federal state local and TMSA policies and procedures
  • Implements and adheres to Classified Employee Work Rules and School Nutrition Personnel and Uniform Standards
  • Lead planning inventory forecasting ordering and receiving
  • Submit monthly claims and SNP reports to the GaDOE
  • Ensures sanitation and safety procedures are always followed
  • Supervises subordinate SNP Employees in assigned program and assists in selection training and evaluation employees including proper methods of food preparation serving storage and sanitation
  • Prep cook and serve meals
  • Maintains food safety and sanitation procedures including employee cleanliness and food handling receiving storage and preparation and cooling Monitors temperature records of refrigerated equipment freezers and dry food storage area
  • Manages the use and care of small and large equipment
  • Maintains ServSafe Certification
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Promotes school nutrition and exhibits good public relations
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with customers staff and administrators and work with them in a tactful considerate and cooperative manner
  • Make decisions in critical situations
  • Follows instructions both verbal and written
  • Follows instructions for chemical use in the operation of the program
  • Reports all accidents and monitors employee health so that the public may be protected against disease
  • Responsible for files and the retention of all records relating to the school nutrition operation to include breakfast lunch snacks production cash sheets inventories purchasing and invoice records employee records and time sheets monthly summary reports and all other reports required
  • Improves job related skills and take pride in serving all students and staff
  • Completes all required training
  • Creates an atmosphere in the cafeteria which results in high percentage of student and adult participation
  • Promotes the School Nutrition Program healthy eating habits and foster good public relations
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the appropriate supervisor or administrator
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; college degree preferred
  • Certification/Licensure: National Restaurant ServSafe Certified preferred; State Department of Education Training Requirement to be completed within 5 years of hire date
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of food service and/or management experience required; institutional food manager experience preferred
Minimal Qualification
Education - High School Diploma or GED. Associates degree preferred
Certification/Licensure
None required; must be willing to acquire additional training as directed by manager
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an educational or social services environment. Experience in afterschool program management is a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of established food service standards and practices and federal state and local regulations as related to the school nutrition program
  • Ability to supervise food preparation based on sound principals of nutrition customer acceptability and cost control
  • Ability to maintain food cost control through planning and purchasing
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with District and school personnel the general public and work with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to organize and maintain records as required by federal state and local regulations
  • Must be able to make decisions in critical situations
  • Ability to follow instructions both verbal and written
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Typically requires climbing ladders pushing and/or pulling
  • Must be able to lift push and/or pull more than 75 pounds
  • Must be able to stand crouch and climb as reasonably required
  • Lift with the use of a ladder in high places.
  • Lift heavy items from a stooping position.
  • Extreme temperature including an industrial freezer
  • Work with hands in hot water and chemicals approved for use in the school Nutrition Program operation.
