Position Summary:

The School of Business Business Career Services is inviting talented and qualified candidates to apply for the part time hourly role of Event and Marketing Coordinator. This position will report to the Director of Business Career Services.


Typical Responsibilities:

This role will play a pivotal part in organizing impactful events that enhance student success. By facilitating networking opportunities workshops and career fairs this role will help students build essential skills connect with potential employers and navigate their career paths effectively.

  • Collaborate with the director to support the development and management of Business Career Services (BCS) programs and events such as career fairs on campus Interviews information tables meet & greets etc.

  • Collaborate with academic departments to support student-focused co-branded career development programming including but not limited to department expos.

  • Assist with program and event management tracking and marketing using Google Suite Canva Handshake and Slate.

  • Manage event-related logistics including timelines supply lists shared google calendar vendor orders etc.

  • Assist with day of event logistics programming including setup program materials event management event clean up vendor management volunteers etc.

  • Manage catering orders for employer events including but not limited to career fairs meet and greets informational tablings expos etc.

  • Lead event marketing including content creation and timeline scheduling in conjunction with School of Business Marketing & Communications.

  • Work on special projects and initiatives as needed to support Business Career Services and the School of Business.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

  • Ability to function well in a cross-functional work environment that may present competing deadlines.

  • Ability to manage multiple events simultaneously while maintaining high standards.

  • Strong attention to detail to help ensure all aspects of the event run smoothly and successfully.

  • Excellent problem-solving writing organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to learn and use various computer programs internet software and office applications.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in an administrative or support position or relevant work experience in a university setting.

  • Proven track record of successfully planning and executing events.

  • Demonstrate strong judgment in identifying issues presenting solutions and knowing when to escalate to senior team members or management for efficient problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of programs operations and administrative policies and procedures to maintain or enhance the departments efficiency.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Google Workspace Canva and other relevant software.


Additional Information:

  • Typical Schedule:Monday - Thursday averaging 20 hours per week Mid-August through early May. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends to support events (adequate notice will be given). This position is primarily in person and could be eligible for a flexible work schedule once training is completed and will be coordinated with the supervisor of this role.
