Job Description

Job Summary
The Student Success Hub provides a collaborative structure for advisors to support students across multiple programs a commitment to ongoing professional development and a supportive leadership team dedicated to professional advising and student success. This candidate will advise students in the School for Cultural & Social Transformation (Ethnic Studies Gender Studies Disability Studies and Pacific Islands Studies) regarding their academic planning and progress by utilizing professional advising and guidance skills. They will also support advising services for several departments in the College of Social & Behavioral Science (Family & Consumer Studies Psychology and Sociology & Criminology) through the Student Success Hubs collaborative advising model. Utilizes professional advising and guidance skills to assess individualized needs of students and provides appropriate advice related to academic planning and progress leading to graduation. The Sr. Academic Advisor designs implements oversees and evaluates advising programs that contribute to the academic advising mission of the School for Cultural and Social Transformation. May mentor other advisors but maintains an advising caseload. This position will assist the University in promoting a climate of respect that cultivates and sustains transformative practices by forging spaces of possibility where people feel valued and welcomed respecting all students in their quests for individual success through degree programs certificates majors etc.

Responsibilities
This job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. Assesses the past performance of academic programs through program evaluations. 2. Meets with undergraduate students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues such as graduation requirements and exceptions and course planning and registration. 3. Facilitates students academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles tutoring career decisions mental health or other various needs. 4. Disseminates information to students faculty and departments about changes in major requirements or University policies and adjusts advising strategies as appropriate. 5. Uses enterprise-level data analytics and student record technology platforms (e.g. EAB Navigate) to monitor student progress. Participates in proactive advising and intervention strategies for assigned student populations. 6. Actively engages in campus-based professional development communities including but not limited to UAAC or other relevant organizations that advance direct skills in academic advising. 7. Proficient in degree tracking software record keeping systems and advising-related technologies 8. Maintains students academic files that include a record of advising activity referrals exceptions made transfer courses etc. Actively engages with EAB Navigate. 9. Coordinates and/or participates in the advising-related portion of new/transfer student and parent orientation sessions. 10. Assists with data compilation statistical reports and correspondence depending on the area of assignment. 11. Attends monthly staff meetings and trainings related to advising. 12. Develops and presents education programs designed to supplement or enhance academic preparedness. 13. Participates in local and national professional associations by serving on planning committees and presenting at conferences and seminars. 14. Significantly contributes to selection and training of new advising staff. 15. May mentor academic advisors and participate in hiring training and evaluating those employees. 16. Supports the Student Success Hub in appropriate outreach events and activities as assigned. 17. The position is distinguished from lower-level advising positions in that incumbents have responsibilities for program oversight faculty interaction and dealing with more complex advising-related issues. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). 4 years of direct academic advising experience. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
