Our singular mission is to help ensure Harvard University has the financial resources to maintain and expand its leadership in teaching learning and research for future generations. The endowment is managed by a highly experienced generalist investment team whose members each take ownership of the entire portfolio regardless of asset class. HMCs operational structure brings a wide range of expertise to our portfolio management. These functions include risk management legal compliance finance and accounting human resources and administrative services as well as information technology to develop and implement the systems necessary to support our investment activities.
SUMMARY
The Tax Compliance role is an integral part of HMCs Tax Team which is responsible for completing all tax filings for HMCs tax-exempt and taxable entities. This individual will have primary responsibility for gathering necessary information for internal preparation of all federal and state tax returns. The individual will assist in the preparation of tax workpapers and returns with other team members in addition to working on related tax issues/initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Advanced understanding of foreign entity reporting requirements and US foreign informational Formsand 926
Prepare/review federal and state tax returns including IRS Forms 990 990-TS 1065 and multiple state tax returns
Compile track and organize tax accounting and investment information needed for the preparation of tax returns
Prepare workpapers to support tax returns and other tax initiatives
Participate in and contribute to refining internal processes and procedures
Establish and maintain relationships with external managers to gather pertinent tax and investment information
Establish and maintain critical relationships with internal accounting group and other functional areas within HMC and at Harvard University
Assist with researching tax accounting and financial regulations and analyzing tax implications to support tax filings audits and other similar initiatives
Coordinate with tax advisors to support tax filings tax audits and other inquiries from tax authorities
Work on special projects as requested
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree accounting or finance major required
5-10 years accounting firm or financial services experience
Skilled in preparing/reviewing U.S. international forms 5471 and 8865
Experience with taxation of various entity types including tax-exempt entities and partnerships desirable
Experience with major tax preparation software a plus
CPA/MST designations a plus
Advanced proficiency in Excel spreadsheet creation and manipulation preferred
Detail oriented strong work ethic and dedication to superior work product
Ability to identify issues and research and recommend solutions
Team Player with can do attitude and willingness to learn and develop expertise
Self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines willingness to work extra hours when necessary
Excellent professional interpersonal and verbal communication
Exceptional organizational skills are required
OTHER DETAILS
The FLSA classification for this position is exempt
HMC operates on a hybrid work model where employees are in theoffice from Tuesday to Thursday and remote on other days
