The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an Instrumentation Technologist/Engineer in our Engineering department within the Metals division located in Fort Saskatchewan. The purpose of this position is to create or modify instrumentation documents specifications drawings and packages with a strong focus on safety reliability performance and production optimization. The role also provides guidance to stakeholders on instrumentation-related issues and requirements.

In this role you will be accountable for:

  • Developing instrumentation scopes of work designs estimates and documentation to support capital projects and maintenance.
  • Offering instrumentation expertise and guidance to stakeholders across disciplines and departments to ensure alignment with best practices and operational requirements.
  • Reviewing and updating instrumentation standards specifications and procedures to ensure consistency compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Investigating inefficiencies and introducing technical innovations and new technologies to enhance performance reliability and productivity.
  • Supporting the development implementation and optimization of EIC business plans and engineering work processes aligned with site asset management strategies.
  • Completing work in alignment with regulatory requirements and Sherritts zero-harm objectives while proactively addressing HSE hazards and incorporating safety into design.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in instrumentation design including instrument and valve sizing/selection.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with 5 years of hands-on experience in instrumentation plant maintenance construction and commissioning environments.
  • Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology or a bachelors degree in engineering with a specialization in Instrumentation.
  • Currently registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as a . P.L. Eng. EIT P. Tech. or C.E.T.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems industrial process equipment and relevant national/international standards (e.g. ISA ASME ANSI API).
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting process electrical and mechanical drawings and documentation related to instrumentation systems.
  • Familiarity with Asset Management systems business planning tools and engineering/maintenance software including Microsoft Office Suite and SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplined teams and across various organizational levels.
