Job Description

  • Employment Type: Part Time Fixed Term for 12 months (21-hour week)
  • Remuneration Level 6: $100354 - $% Superannuation
  • Location: Paddington NSW (the successful candidate will be required to work on campus 3 days a week)

Why The Role Matters:

The Big Anxiety Research Centre BARC is a unique transdisciplinary enterprise dedicated to transforming thinking and practice in mental health through creative collaboration and cultural innovation. Our key programs of work are in VR and trauma AI companions and other arts/health/wellbeing visual anthropology program of work. We support an exciting new transdisciplinary approach to the study of lived experiences of ageing trauma and mental health specialising in the development of virtual reality immersive media and AI skilled companions. The team spans psychosocial studies/social science art/design immersive media and 3D visualisation.

The Communications & Events Officer delivers communications and events and works closely with the Centre to ensure best practice coordination with other Faculties and Divisions and sharing of ideas. They will support the development implementation and maintenance of the Centres communications covering websites social media newsletters email marketing and events. The Communications & Events Officer will report to the Director Big Anxiety Research Centre and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities:

  • Respond to requests for research communications support including promoting and disseminating research and research events via appropriate channels.
  • Produce collate and edit content for BARC publications and other outputs including newsletters and high-profile BARC documents presentations and events.
  • Assist in the preparation and facilitation of Centre events including communication content creation logistical support and post-event activities.
  • Provide a range of administrative support to the Centre and its flagship research programs including maintenance of detailed filing systems spreadsheets image databases websites and other administrative systems.
  • Build and maintain highly effective working relationships with the External Engagement team ensuring support is provided to meet faculty research needs as and when required.
  • Implement the agreed events plan and coordinate and deliver all aspects of the event management lifecycle for events in collaboration with the Director BARC and other stakeholders.
  • Use agreed event platforms process and adhere to agreed brand and event policies.
  • Provide advice to stakeholders in your area on communications including most appropriate channels to deliver effective and targeted messages to relevant audiences. Liaise with relevant stakeholders to develop and disseminate content.

Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with demonstrated experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education training and experience.
  • Working understanding of graphic design software.
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering and measuring live and digital events and internal communications programs that support transformational change within a complex organisational environment.
  • Advanced experience delivering a variety of events and sound understanding of the steps involved in working with event owners presenters stakeholders and audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and to develop plan and implement successful events particularly with immersive media (VR AI) demonstrations.
  • Understanding of the target audience with a highly effective writing style in high-impact messaging to internal audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in distilling complex information into simple messages for communication to a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders to influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to navigate through competing deadlines.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated capability of producing content for diverse audiences and channels including social media and websites.
