Description

The post holder will work in the Contract Management branch within Ferries Directorate that is responsible for all directly subsidised ferry services within Scotland. These include the Clyde & Hebrides and Northern Isles contracts. The essential nature of ferries means that there is a lot of local presentational interest in what we do.

The post will focus predominantly on Contract Management however there will also be interaction with colleagues in Ferries Policy along with other internal and external stakeholders.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a high profile environment and work closely with Scottish Ministers. You will also have opportunities to occasionally travel to Glasgow or Edinburgh and out on the ferry network for meetings possibly requiring overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other contract management colleagues to support the delivery of lifeline ferry services on the Clyde & Hebrides Ferry Services. There may also be the requirement on occasion to assist with the contract for the Northern Isles Ferry Services.
  • Review ferry service levels and monitor operator performance by checking monthly/quarterly performance returns to ensure operators are adhering to their contractual obligations.
  • Analyse and present received information to managers ensuring that any issues are identified logged and appropriately cascaded.
  • Arrange and minute regular and ad hoc meetings between the team and ferry operators and other external stakeholders and progress agreed actions and issues when they arise.
  • Effectively assist the Ferries Contracts Manager in the management of the CHFS2/NIFS Contract by:
  • Attending the weekly call with CalMac/Northlink (when required for cover) drafting a read out ofthe call for clearance by B3. Thereafter circulating promptly within the Directorate.
  • Attending the monthly contract management meeting with the Operator and taking notes to ensure any actions are recorded and followed up.
  • Preparation of the Fortnightly Ministerial report which provides statistics current issues and upcoming events to inform the Cabinet Secretary.
  • Co-ordinate specific cross team/branch tasks ensuring that they are up to date on the wider work of the Policy unit.
  • Occasionally the post will require travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh and to Scotlands islands some of which are remote and will involve overnight stays.

Working Pattern

Location

This post is based inGlasgow or Edinburgh with hybrid working in line with current Transport Scotland policies. You will be expected to be office based twice per week pro rata.
