Statutory SEND Team Lead Preparing for Adulthood and Extra Care

Grade 5 Full-time Flexible working considered
Location: Cornwall

About the Role

This is a senior leadership role within Cornwall Councils Statutory SEND Service with a specialist focus on children inn our in theextra care cohort aged 0-25 and young people inYear 9 and above who are Preparing for Adulthood.

Asone of two Statutory SEND Team Leads you will lead a team responsible for the review and oversight of Education Health and Care (EHC) plans for young people aged 1425. You will also oversee the extra care team supporting children and young people with complex needs including those in care on child protection plans or with significant health conditions aged 0-25 years.

You will work closely with the Enterprise and Employability team post-16 providers and commissioners to ensure young people have access to high-quality aspirational pathways into adulthood.

Cornwall Councils Children and Family Services are committed to ensuring every child and young person receives the support they need to thrive. The Statutory SEND Service plays a vital role in delivering high-quality person-centred support for children and young people with EHC plans.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Leading a team of Senior EHCP Officers and Review Officers to ensure timely high-quality reviews of EHC plans.
  • Overseeing the extra care cohort and ensuring robust support for children with complex needs.
  • Championing high aspirations for young people preparing for adulthood including pathways to employment training and independent living.
  • Collaborating with post-16 providers commissioners and the Enterprise and Employability team to shape provision and ensure value for money.
  • Acting as a senior representative of the Local Authority in complex casework including producing evidence for tribunals and participating in mediation.
  • Chairing the Stage 3 SEN Panel on rotation and contributing to strategic decision-making across the SEN Managers Group.

What Youll Need to Succeed

  • Significant experience in a relevant education health or social care setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 the SEND Code of Practice (025) and associated regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience working with young people with SEND and their families with a commitment to person-centred practice.
  • Confidence in managing complex casework and making evidence-based decisions.
