Job Description

Great Oaks Legacy Charter School is seeking an Managing Director of PreK-12 Academics.

Great Oaks Legacy is seeking an experienced like-minded urban educator to lead its elementary school campus in Newark NJ. The School Leader is responsible for setting a powerful vision for student achievement motivating others to follow that vision and strategically implementing the schools mission through effective leadership and management of the schools students and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Great Oaks Legacy Managing Director of PreK-12 Academicsis responsible for:

School Culture.The School Leaderdefines and builds a transformative school culture consistent with Great Oaks Legacy core values and mission. With the Executive Director the School Leader designs and implements programs and initiatives; devises school-wide rituals that promote the culture and sustain the schools values. The School Leader develops positive relationships with all stakeholders including staff students families and community members/organizations.

Instructional Leadership.Provide instructional leadership for the school including: maintaining school-wide focus on high standards of student achievement; ensuring teaching state standards; managing process for analyzing data to increase student achievement; and supporting all teachers and staff members in their professional development.

Student Management.The School Leaderworks with the Dean of Student to define and implement behavior management tools including overseeing staff training in behavior management policies techniques and strategies and ensuring the consistent deployment of such tools school-wide.

Staff Resource.The School Leader serves as a resource to teachers on issues of instructional practices school culture and policies professional development and resource management; Observes and coaches teachers and staff on a consistent basis.

Student Motivation.The School Leader works with the Dean to develop school wide programs to incentivize positive behaviors and create a school-wide identity among the students.

Talent Acquisition & Talent Development.The School Leader manages all human resources at the school site including coordinating (along with the recruitment team) recruitment and training of staff providing feedback and evaluations to staff securing professional development opportunities and developing a collaborative team culture.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Managing Director of PreK-12 Academicsmust:

  • Be relentlessly committed to preparing every student for college
  • Possess strong leadership and team skills
  • Be a self-aware leader who knows how to treat all members of the schools community with respect appraises accurately his or her strengths and weaknesses and is perceptive about how he or she is regarded
  • Have superb organizational and self-management skills and be able to handle multiple responsibilities effectively; have strong planning and execution skills; be a goal-oriented and effective problem-solver
  • Be dependable
  • Be driven to improve the minds and lives of students
  • Being dedicated to doing whatever it takes to help all the schools students achieve academic success
  • Be passionate about academic learning and insistent on academic excellence and rigor at all times

Candidates must have:

  • Principal Supervisor or School Administrator certification or meet the requirements for certification.
  • At least five years of successful experience teaching and leading in an urban school environment; Grade level leader department chair or instructional leadership experience preferred.
  • A clear record of elevating student achievement in an urban classroom with a strong understanding of pedagogy that drives results
  • A relentless work ethic and commitment to achieving the schools mission.
  • Excellent strategic planning leadership management and communication skills with a proven ability to lead instructional and non-instructional staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent skills of organization and follow-through
  • A strong academic record including a bachelors degree from an accredited university

An advanced degree from a competitive university is strongly preferred. Alumni of Teach For America Education Pioneers The New Teacher Project and New Leaders for New Schools are strongly encouraged to apply.
