TEGNA Technology & Engineering is building the next generation of media applications that serve millions of users across mobile web and streaming platforms. We are looking for a Senior Android Developer to join our growing mobile team and help lead the development of highly scalable modular and performant native Android applications that integrate into our unified content and streaming platforms.
This is a hands-on role where youll be deeply involved in the technical execution while also collaborating with product design backend and platform teams to build applications that are tightly integrated into our microservice architecture personalization engines and real-time video streaming platforms.
Responsibilities:
Design build and maintain advanced applications for the Android platform using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers designers backend engineers DevOps and streaming engineers.
Integrate apps with REST APIs video streaming services personalized content delivery and third-party analytics/ad platforms.
Ensure modular maintainable code that fits into our multi-team architecture allowing multiple teams to build features independently.
Contribute to architecture decisions that balance technical excellence scalability and speed-to-market.
Implement best practices for performance optimization accessibility offline functionality and security.
Write unit tests integration tests and participate in code reviews to maintain high code quality.
Mentor junior developers and contribute to building a strong engineering culture based on accountability collaboration and continuous improvement.
Stay current with Android trends emerging technologies and Googles evolving platform roadmap.
Requirements:
5 years of professional Android development experience.
Strong experience with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose in production apps.
Experience working with RESTful APIs and cloud-native backends.
Deep understanding of modern Android architecture (MVVM Clean Architecture Dependency Injection etc.)
Familiarity with media streaming technologies video playback and ad integrations is a plus.
Experience working in multi-team modular codebases where multiple developers contribute to shared products.
Comfortable working in Agile environments with short iterative release cycles.
Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to work cross-functionally.
Experience working closely with Product and Design to drive feature innovation.
