Job Description

Under supervision this position will work closely with Senior Researchers assisting in the design implementation analysis and reporting for various applied research projects and programs at the Center for Urban Resilience (CURes).

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Assists the senior researchers through on-site support and data collection support.
  • Carries out tasks to support CURes activities on-campus and in Ballona Discovery Park including filling bird feeders supporting installation and maintenance of new planting projects etc.
  • With support from senior researchers works on research implementation (e.g. survey set-up recruitment etc.) assists with data management.
  • Conducts basic data analyses with supervision from senior researchers. Maintain accurate records of research activities and data.
  • Transcribe audio data; qualitatively code the resulting transcripts. Develops and maintains electronic codebook.
  • Assist senior researchers with reporting on in-progress research projects and programs through PowerPoint presentations social media posts and short summary reports.
  • Support CURes summer outreach events including scheduling set-up and break-down.
  • Collaborate with team members to support ongoing research initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies Environmental Science Biology or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge skills and abilities needed to keep abreast of methods used in the lab as well as regulation/policy changes.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous social-ecological research work experience in an academic research setting.
  • Previous research experience and some experience with qualitative skills including knowledge of coding;
  • Strong organizational skills and a track record of working collaboratively with others in professional or extracurricular settings
  • Ability to be highly organized to facilitate record-keeping data management managing multiple responsibilities and collaboration with student research assistants. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • High intrinsic motivation and excellent self-management. Ability to take responsibility in meeting deadlines and making progress without direct supervision.
  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Word PowerPoint Excel and Qualtrics.

Salary range

$21.68 - $26.01 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
