BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
In 2021 WFP efforts to helping countries to establish and maintain nationally owned programmes as well as implementing school meals programmes with clear hand over strategies were taken to the next level with the launch of the School Meals Coalition at the Food Systems Summit.
For more than 60 years WFP has been the leading organization in supporting countries with their school meals programmes which are widely prevalent throughout the world.
In 2020 WFP launched a 10-year strategy for school meals. WFP advocates for the universal adoption of school meals programmes as a safety net that helps increase childrens access to education and learning opportunities and strengthens their health and nutrition status. WFP focuses increasingly on helping countries to establish and maintain nationally owned programmes. In countries still requiring WFPs operational support it implements school meals programmes with clear hand over strategies.
WFP is seeking to hire a qualified and experienced individual to serve as Partnerships and Advocacy Officer for the School Meals Coalition Secretariat Team hosted by WFP. Reporting to the Head of Advocacy and Communications she/he will be expected to support the implementation of WFPs advocacy plan in support of the School Meals Coalition and support the visibility and partnership of advocacy efforts within the School Meals and Social Protection Service.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Finalise key content for the launch of the WFPs flagship publication the State of School Feeding Worldwide report in September. This includes drafting or updating associated advocacy and communications materials.
2.
Working closely with the WFP AU office support the engagement with the AU and AUDA NEPAD to position school meals on the continental agenda. This includes regular discussions to identify advocacy opportunities and provide support around relevant AU events and policy processes.
3.
Draft advocacy materials particularly talking points and slide decks.
4.
Update messaging pagers with latest evidence and policy discussions.
5.
Perfom any other duties in support of the School Meals Coalition Secretariat Team.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
Deliverables include:
- Deliver high-quality content for the State of School Feeding Worldwide report and associated advocacy and communications materials including updating messaging pagers with the new numbers.
- Manage regular coordination with WFP AU office around advocacy opportunities and donor reporting.

TERMS OF REFERENCE
FOR SHORT-TERM/CONSULTANCY CONTRACTS

- Deliver at least three high-quality advocacy products notably talking points.
- Deliver comprehensive handover note on our teams engagement at AU level including reporting requirements to donor.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
First University degree in Social Science Journalism International Relations Public Relations Communications or relevant field.
Experience:
3 year of related experience in communication partnerships or advocacy
Knowledge & Skills:
Prior experience in writing and editing long-form content including but not limited to articles blogs newsletters and managing social media
Working knowledge on UN communication products writing standards and terminology is an asset.
Mature judgment with strong interpersonal skills
Collaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy
Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead anticipate requirements problems and obstacles and an ability to juggle competing priorities successfully and to work to tight deadlines
Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy
Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the World Food Programme

Languages:
International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic Chinese French Russian Spanish and/or WFPs working language Portuguese.
