This position will assist in the procurement and management of engineering-type studies design services and construction services; maintain project files and documents; and perform construction field inspections and other related tasks as required. Warren County residency is required (within six months of employment). Essential duties for the position include:
- Prepares preliminary design plans to construct water and sewer mains and pumping facilities for engineers review.
- Prepares preliminary labor material and equipment project cost estimates.
- Monitors and reports regularly upon design and construction project progress as well as budget .
- Writes design and construction contracts specifications and manages design and construction contracts.
- Oversee the use and application of hydraulic modeling software in water and wastewater system applications where applicable.
- Reviews and interprets technical specifications and construction plans and drawings.
- Manages projects during construction assists the Purchasing Agent in bidding procedures reviews shop drawings approves pay requests facilitates and oversees documentation of project close-out and maintains project files.
- Prepares project correspondence and otherwise coordinates project contractor and consulting engineer activities.
- Assists developers consultants and contractors in interpreting and understanding BGMU requirements for development of new utility infrastructure.
- Assists Engineering Department personnel in maintaining engineering and infrastructure record databases (including electronic and hard copy).
- Functions as Project Manager on specific assigned projects including the coordination of other engineering department personnel as assigned by the Engineering Superintendent.
- Coordinates project activities with federal state and local governmental and regulatory agencies.
- Additional work and/or training outside normal work hours may be required.
Skills and other Attributes: Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering. Knowledge of basic water distribution and wastewater collection system principles and practices. Ability to create neat and accurate engineering drawings as well as proficiency in technical writing. Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word Excel Access Outlook and Bluebeam. Ability to use automated drafting software (i.e. AutoCAD Civil 3D) and equipment such as plotters scanners and GPS equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels with a focus on quality service to internal and external customers.
Required Qualifications
For Project Manager:
- High School degree or graduate equivalency.
- Ten 10 years if extensive project experience in positions of escalating technical difficulty and responsibility in the water and wastewater engineering field. Relevant college coursework will be applied at a 2:1 ratio (i.e. 1 year of relevant coursework is equivalent to 2 years experience).
For Project Engineer:
- Bachelors degree in civil environmental or mechanical engineering.
- Two 2 years of experience in water wastewater or related engineering work.
Preferred Qualifications
For Project Manager:
- Bachelors degree in engineering (civil environmental or mechanical) or construction management.
For Project Engineer:
- Five 5 years of experience in water wastewater or related engineering work.
