Position Number:110140Position Title (Classification Title):Associate Director 110140Working Title:Associate Director Housing and Residence LifeJob Summary:The Associate Director serves as a key leader and strategic partner within the department reporting directly to the Director of Housing and Residence Life. This position provides oversight of both Housing Administration and Residence Life through the supervision of the Assistant Directors. The Associate Director plays a critical role in creating a culture of care and enhancing resident satisfaction through intentional programming and services that support student wellbeing community engagement and success. The role is also responsible for assessing and improving housing operations including the development and implementation of departmental assessments analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and using findings to inform practice. Additionally the Associate Director oversees strategies related to optimal ongoing occupancy resident satisfaction and marketing to ensure strong demand and full utilization of campus housing. This position helps align departmental operations with the goals of the Division of Student Affairs and university-wide priorities such as retention and graduation. The Associate Director is essential in driving continuous improvement in the student housing experience and shaping the departments future direction in alignment with the Universitys mission.DepartmentHousing Residence LifeFLSA:ExemptMinimum Qualifications:Masters degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience; or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience.Position Qualifications:Strong experience in designing and conducting assessments including statistical analysis and data interpretation. Proven ability to supervise and develop staff members including performance management and professional development. Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact effectively with students parents faculty and staff. Experience with crisis management student conduct and conflict resolution. Demonstrated understanding of housing operations student development theory and residential life programming. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in student housing retention and graduation efforts.Preferred QualificationsAt least 5 years of demonstrated success and progressive experience in housing residence life or a related field including experience supervising professional staff.
Essential Functions / Job Duties:
  • 30% - This position provides direct supervision and mentorship to the Assistant Directors of Housing Administration and Residence Life ensuring alignment with departmental goals and fostering a collaborative team environment. This role involves conducting regular one-on-one meetings facilitating performance evaluations and offering continuous feedback to support professional growth. The Associate Director identifies and promotes professional development opportunities encouraging staff participation in workshops conferences and training sessions to enhance their competencies. By modeling effective leadership and decision-making the Associate Director cultivates a culture of accountability inclusivity and excellence within the department. Additionally the Associate Director leads regular departmental meetings to ensure cohesive operations encourages collaboration and addresses emerging challenges within the housing and residence life teams. In the absence of the Director the Associate Director serves as the primary point of contact providing leadership support and ensuring the continuity of operations. Beyond professional staff supervision the Associate Director actively engages with student staff including Resident Assistants and Desk Assistants by participating in and facilitating regular training sessions staff meetings and development workshops. This involvement ensures that student staff are well- prepared to support residents effectively and contribute to a positive residential community. The Associate Directors consistent presence and interaction with student staff foster a supportive environment that promotes student leadership and growth. - (Essential)
  • 25% - This position is responsible for overseeing and supporting key operational areas within the department. This includes managing room assignments billing processes coordination of Living Learning Communities summer camps and conference housing and staffing and ensuring compliance with service animal and ADA accommodation policies. Collaborating closely with the Assistant Director for Housing Administration the Associate Director implements strategies and technologies aimed at enhancing departmental efficiency and workflow. Additionally they work in partnership with the Assistant Director for Residence Life to promote the overall success and quality of life in residential communities which encompasses managing crisis situations and ensuring student wellbeing. The Associate Director plays a key role in emergency management planning including the development and implementation of protocols for active assailant situations hurricane preparedness and other severe weather events. They collaborate with campus safety and emergency management teams to ensure that the departments emergency response plans are comprehensive up-to-date and effectively communicated to staff and residents. The Associate Director remains informed about federal and state laws affecting campus housing and is responsible for developing and conducting necessary compliance trainings on topics such as Campus Security Authorities FERPA ADA etc. They monitor training completion to ensure that staff members meet all legal requirements thereby maintaining the departments adherence to federal state and Board of Governors and University policies and regulations. - (Essential)
  • 10% - This position is responsible for building strong relationships with students families and campus partners to ensure a supportive and responsive residential experience. Serving as a primary resource for parents and families the Associate Director ensures clear and open communication regarding housing policies processes and issues. By addressing concerns and managing complaints in a timely and effective manner they uphold the departments commitment to premier customer service. Additionally the Associate Director collaborates with various campus departments including Intercollegiate Athletics Living Learning Community Coordinators the Dean of Students Office and Orientation to coordinate services and initiatives that enhance student wellbeing and success within the residential community. - (Essential)
  • 10% - This position leads the design implementation and evaluation of assessments focused on student housing operations and residential experiences. Utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods they conduct comprehensive data analyses to evaluate student housing services programs and community engagement. The Associate Director uses assessment data to generate actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing the student housing experience promoting student success and supporting departmental goals. Additionally they monitor and analyze housing trends occupancy data and feedback to guide data-driven decisions. - (Essential)
  • 10% - This position assists in shaping the strategic direction of the department. They actively participate in the development and implementation of long-term plans that align with university objectives and respond to evolving student needs. This includes contributing to facility planning staffing models and operational priorities to ensure a dynamic and responsive residential environment. The Associate Director is responsible for the continuous review and revision of departmental policies and procedures. They ensure that all policies are up-to-date compliant with current regulations and reflective of best practices in student housing and residence life. By engaging with stakeholders and incorporating feedback the Associate Director fosters a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the department. This position monitors changes in regulations housing trends and best practices to inform policy updates and promote innovation within departmental operations. - (Essential)
  • 10% - This position represents the department at division and university-wide events such as orientations homecoming and family weekends and attends regional and national conferences and training sessions to remain informed of housing trends and best practices. Additionally the Associate Director contributes to departmental marketing efforts including the development of materials and social media content to effectively communicate with current and prospective residents. They also coordinate recognition efforts for student and professional staff promoting a culture of appreciation and excellence within Housing and Residence Life. - (Essential)
