Position Summary

Assist with the advanced setup operation and maintenance of mechanical circulatory support systems and perform hemodynamic profiles for assessment of critically ill patients.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides advanced technical support for all noninvestigational mechanical circulatory support systems including the intraaortic balloon pump ventricular assist devices and other life support systems. With the guidance of the Coordinator or experienced CSS Specialist assist physicians with the implementation of the MCS systems by assembling pumps according to the manufacturers recommended procedures.
  • Operates and maintain the MCS system under the direction of a physician.
  • Responds rapidly to the need for the initiation maintenance or troubleshooting of all MCS systems in the OR ICUCCU Cath Lab and ER.
  • Performs advanced hemodynamic profile determinations as ordered by physicians.
  • Assists research staff with investigational MCS devices (Jarvik 2000 Abiocor Tandem Heart) and study protocols including: monitoring data entry on case report forms.
  • Assists with the transport of patients receiving support with any MCS system to tests and procedures away from the patients room.
  • Maintains cleanliness and storage of all MCS device related equipment.
  • Packages pumps removed from patients for return to manufacturer or for study purposes.
  • Completes departmental documentation for record keeping and patient charges.
  • Communicates with Manager or Coordinator all critical department activities to allow for the proper coordination of research activities and personnel resources
  • Serves as a mentor for junior staff

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Licensure:

  • Associates Degree OR completion of training program
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Minimum Experience:

  • Three (3) year of experience OR completion of training program
