Job Summary
The Mail Handler is responsible for the movement sorting and distribution of mail and packages. Their duties include unloading mail trucks sorting and moving mail operating mail processing equipment and maintaining a clean and organized mailroom. Trains and supervises department employees to comply with all U.S. Postal Service and University regulations. They may also be involved in inventory management preparing outgoing mail and filling in with deliveries.
Responsibilities
Unloading and Loading Mail: Unloading mail from trucks and staging it for processing or other equipment for sorting. Sorting and Distributing Mail: Separating outgoing mail and packages based on destination and type. Operating Mail Processing Equipment: Using machinery like forklifts sorting machines scales and postage meters. Maintaining Mailroom: Ensuring the mailroom is clean organized and free of hazards. Inventory Management: Tracking and managing supplies including labels tape and other materials. Assisting with Deliveries: May be involved in making deliveries or assisting with large deliveries and route planning. Customer Service: Responding to customer inquiries about mail or packages. Other Duties: May include tasks like preparing outgoing mail weighing packages or assisting with special mail services.
Minimum Qualifications
A valid Utah drivers license and the ability to routinely move up to 60 lbs; ability to work under pressure deadlines; and demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills required. Experience in processing bulk rate mail and familiarity with U.S. postal regulations or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) preferred.
