You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe hourly American Sign Language interpreter interprets classroom lectures and presentations for qualifying students. The interpreter works on an intermittent basis as required for particular courses. This is an hourly position not to exceed 69 hours per month. This position reports directly to the ASL and Disability Support Coordinator. As an hourly position the position qualifies for Washington state part-time employee benefits.
Transmit through sign language and mouth expression semi-technical classroom and course work presentations; communicate to the student simultaneously what the instructor has said; transmit back to the instructor by interpretation from the students relaying responses to questions and asking questions.
Tutor students under the direction of classroom instructors; by sign language answer their questions or assist them in course material that they are having difficulty with; provide guidance and direction on study methods.
Arrange for notetaking for deaf students; supply special notebooks and any other equipment needed.
Assist the instructor in providing for the deaf students the best possible environment to facilitate their learning.
Complete daily and monthly reports on classes for which interpreted complete reports on individual students progress.
Attend meetings and workshops in interpretation techniques and tutoring.
Perform related duties as required.
