About the Role

Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist Emergency Department

Level 4

This position is responsible for providing an advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapy service within the Emergency Department (ED) at Northern Beaches Hospital. The candidate will be expected to provide safe and accurate independent diagnosis management and discharge of clients presenting to the ED. This requires the application of high-level evidence and ongoing professional development to expert Physiotherapy clinical skills knowledge and critical reasoning to facilitate novel solutions to complex clinical problems across the continuum of care. The position involves carrying an advanced practice clinical load and the provision of education & training to medical nursing & allied health staff. The roster pattern for this position includes weekends and public holiday coverage.

Selection Criteria:

  • Masters qualification in musculoskeletal or sports physiotherapy (completed degree or in progress) and current AHPRA registration. In the absence of a Masters qualification APA Titling in musculoskeletal or sports Physiotherapy will be sufficient.
  • Substantial postgraduate experience (at a minimum Level 3 grading) in Emergency Department orthopaedic and musculoskeletal Physiotherapy
  • Previous experience in a similar position within an Emergency Department
  • Demonstrated high level of knowledge and excellent clinical care and expertise in the physiotherapy assessment management and discharge planning of patients with orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Knowledge and clinical expertise in casting splinting and the physiotherapy management of patients with peripheral fractures and injuries including the ability to interpret peripheral imaging
  • Demonstrated ability and previous experience in providing leadership to a designated clinical area staff and students
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and conducting program development quality improvement activities and professional education within the emergency and physiotherapy departments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills within the MDT
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and advocacy
  • Ability to work with other senior staff and Physiotherapy Manager on issues such as workload staff management and strategic planning
