Engineering Manager (BE) - Content Enrichment (Remote across ANZ)

What youd be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think thats all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things youll be working on when you start but this will likely evolve.

As the Engineering Team Lead for Content Enrichment youll coach a team of talented and high performing bunch of backend engineers and machine learning engineers working across search enrichment pipelines metadata automation and scalable microservices. Youll define the teams vision and guide strategic delivery aligned with Canvas goals. Youll collaborate closely with content experts product managers and machine learning teams to create infrastructure that makes billions of assets more discoverable and usable every day.

This role will see you:

• Lead and support backend and machine learning engineers driving our content enrichment platforms.

• Shape the teams vision strategy and technical architecture to scale with Canvas content growth.

• Coach and mentor engineers to do the best work of their lives.

• Collaborate across content and product teams to deliver impactful user-facing solutions.

• Embed a culture of operational excellence and continuous technical innovation.

• Represent your team across supergroup forums and strategic initiatives.

• You bring deep engineering expertise ideally with experience in microservices search or content systems.

• Youre experienced in designing systems at scale with a focus on reliability performance and extensibility.

• You collaborate cross-functionally and thrive in partnerships with product ML and content stakeholders.

• You think strategically and deliver pragmatically balancing long-term vision with immediate needs.

About the team

Were part of the Content Group in the Content & Discovery Supergroup. Our group crafts and scales the building blocks of Canvas extensive content library empowering every user to find the perfect content for their design. The Content Enrichment team is focused on elevating the quality relevance and classification of Canvas media through automation intelligent tagging and platform integrations. Our work fuels the discovery engine of Canva and has a direct impact on user satisfaction and engagement.
