About the Role
The Womens Outreach/Community Based Victim Servicesworker provides direct services to women and trans individuals at risk ofviolence and adult and child survivors of family and sexual violence. Thisincludes emotional support referrals advocacy safety planning justicesystem navigation and transportation while coordinating with other providersto promote violence prevention and community education. The role also coversdirect service within the Community Based Victim Services program. Thisposition reports to the Lead of Community-Based Victim Services.
What Youll Do
Womens Outreach -Supports women and their dependent children who are experiencing or at risk ofexperiencing violence abuse or threats. Services include emotional supportsafety planning life skills development resource referrals andtransportation related to program services.
Community-Based Victim Services -Supports clients impacted byrelationship violence sexual assault child sexual abuse elder abuse andfamily violence. Emphasis is placed on helping clients understand the dynamicsand impact of abuse navigating the justice system and legal advocacy.
- Provide trauma-informed feministanti-oppressive and culturally competent support services.
- Assist clients in navigating the Family Justicesystem including family court accompaniment legal aid applications and courtdocument preparation.
- Develop and implement individualized safety plansfor clients and their children.
- Offer information and support on communicationproblem-solving and risk reduction.
- Build and maintain strong interagencyrelationships with community partners (e.g. transition houses shshlhNation RCMP MCFD legal services).
- Respond to calls on the Outreach Line offeringemotional support debriefing and practical assistance.
- Participate in case coordination and interagencymeetings as directed.
- Maintain accurate documentation statisticsfiles and communication logs.
- Support the development and implementation ofeducational and violence prevention initiatives.
- Assist with reporting evaluations and datacollection under the direction of the Supervisor.
- Provide program coverage in the Supervisorsabsence and support a learning environment for students and volunteers.
- Engage in organization-wide initiatives and ensureongoing compliance with CARF standards and SCCSS policies and values.
- Actively work to reduce service barriers andsupport equity access and inclusion in all program areas.
What You Bring
- A post-secondarydegree in social sciences and at least two years of related experiencesupporting survivors of violence or an equivalent combination of education andexperience.
- Strong understandingof the BC Family Relations Act and relevant local provincial and federallegislation.
Demonstratedexperience working effectively and non-judgmentally with diverse populationsincluding different cultural ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. - A feminist andtrauma-informed approach to supporting women children trans and marginalizedindividuals affected by violence.
- Deep knowledge ofthe systemic and structural factors contributing to gender-based violence andthe impacts of colonization including Residential Schools on Indigenouscommunities.
- Familiarity with thenon-profit sector and experience with collaborative community-based work.
- Excellentorganizational communication and multitasking skills with the ability tomanage shifting priorities.
- Strong computerliteracy particularly with Microsoft Office; experience with Victim Servicestraining is an asset.
- Experiencesupporting youth and male survivors of violence is considered an asset.
