Purpose
Directly leads two operations managers while indirectly managing with Canadian Research Analysts a team of approximately 30 individuals in Canada including Research Associates equity research rotational staff co-op students. The mandate for this position includes the execution of business operations including financial budget management and human capital functions for the Equity Research department.


What Youll Do:

  • Hire and indirectly manage a team of approximately 30 Research Associates in Canada ensuring that these individuals develop their skills to become high-performing Associates during their approximate 3- to 5-year tenure in Equity Research.
  • Build a farm team of Associates for future Research Analyst openings.
  • Manage an operations team to support finance Research Associate human capital and other administrative support for the Research team.
  • Champion a high-performance environment and execute a people strategy that includes attracting retaining developing and motivating the team by fostering diversity and an inclusive work environment managing succession and development planning for Research Associates.
  • Build and manage an annual budget of $60 million and the quarterly variance analysis process.
  • Lead and provide oversight and direction on the implementation of large projects and initiatives.
  • Develop training and career development initiatives for Research Associates and Operation teams.
  • Represent the Equity Research department on committees or working groups as required.
  • Partner and interface with various areas of the Bank regarding initiatives impacting Equity Research.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabanks Values its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational compliance AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts retains develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.


What Youll Bring:

  • A business degree or relevant designation.
  • Experience leading coaching mentoring staff to motivate and bring about efficiencies and creativity.
  • Effective interpersonal collaboration and relationship-building skills.
  • Superior written communication skills along with strong strategic influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in financial budgeting and expense management.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt in response to unexpected change.
  • Experience leading large projects and an ability to meet timelines.
  • A sound understanding of Scotiabank policies that impact Equity Research Sales & Trading and other related areas such as investment banking.
  • Ability to act as a bridge between various teams across the bank (e.g. Research/Finance/HR).
  • Product knowledge and capital markets experience would be an asset.


Work Arrangement:
This position is currently an hybrid role with the expectation that you will work at least 3 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
