Description

The Water & Wastewater Infrastructure Repair Technician performs a variety of skilled and technical work in the operation maintenance and repair of Strathcona Countys Water Distribution System Wastewater Collection System and Storm Water Collection Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Will be involved in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Utilities Transmission assets water distribution wastewater and storm collection and treatment assets
  • This position works under the direction of the Supervisor but may be expected to work on their own without direct supervision
  • May be expected to work on call or stand by shift for after regular hour call out for emergencies as directed throughout the year in order to provide expected level of service to the community
  • Repair Techniciansare expected to transfer knowledge between themselves to ensure continuity in job rotation tasks and familiarity between Distribution Collection and Transmission assets
  • Ensure water and wastewater emergency and scheduled work is planned executed and completed within the allotted time frame and approved budget this role will be responsible for not only Strathcona Countys interests but also private property owners to ensure work is being completed to specification and design
  • Ability to schedule or respond to emergent water and wastewater repairs for Strathcona County and Contracts
  • Plan and schedule the repair with selected contractor
  • Ensure ROWCAP locates and crossing agreements are in place prior to start up
  • Ensure inspection of work is being conducted in accordance with Strathcona Countys Design and Construction Standards
  • Inspect and sign off on clean up landscaping and concrete/asphalt at all sites
  • Review invoicing from contractors to ensure accuracy provide to Supervisor for final approval
  • May be required to oversee multiple contractors on various sites throughout Strathcona County
  • Provide project cost estimates for requested private service rehabilitation
  • Review budget expenditures to determine scheduling of requested work with direct supervisor
  • Ensure communication with direct supervisor on all operational capital and emergent budget expenditures to ensure work is completed as expected and within budgeted allocations
  • Ensure fair and equitable decision making based on balancing the Social Environmental and Economic impacts for the community
  • Demonstrate excellence in the delivery of services that reflect Strathcona County
  • Maintain excellent public relations and on-site communication with residents the general public internal and external departments and personnel as well as contracts involved in daily work activities
  • Provide the Supervisor with updates related to repairs schedule and budget
  • Handle customer concerns by email telephone or in person ensuring all matters are dealt with in a timely and professional manner
  • Complete hazard assessments and planned inspections ensuring all safety regulations are followed
  • Demonstrate honesty integrity and respect in all work completed
  • Prior to any construction related start up provide an estimated cost with a PO and receive appropriate approvals from Supervisor
  • On occasion perform operational duties as a Water and Wastewater Operator

Qualificationsand Skills

  • Alberta Environment certification preferably through NAITs Water and Wastewater Technician Program
  • Alberta Environment Operator Certification: Wastewater Treatment Level I Water Distribution Level III and Wastewater Collection Level III (individuals not possessing these levels of certification must be in the active process of obtaining them)
  • Minimum of5 years in construction activities related to water and wastewater installation and repair
  • Thispositionrequires5ormoreyearsofexperienceinthewaterandwastewater field
  • Prime Contractor Training is an asset
  • Ground Disturbance Training is an asset
  • Ability to maintaingoodpublicrelationsduringcontactswithsystemcustomersandmembersofthe public while performing assigned duties
  • KnowledgeofapplicableOccupationalHealthandSafetyrequirementespeciallyconfinedspace entry
  • Astronggeneralknowledgeoftheoperationandmaintenanceofwaterdistributionstormand wastewater collection and treatment facilities
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong administrative capabilities
  • Individualsmustbecapable ofundertakingtasksthatarelabourintensiverequiringaphysical capability

Conditions of Employment

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers license and submission of a 5-year Drivers Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
