The Office of Local Government (OLG) is a small yet diverse agency of professionals invested in creating healthy and prosperous communities across NSW. The role
As a Senior Policy Officer you will play a crucial role in shaping strategic policy and ensuring the seamless coordination of government initiatives. You will provide data-driven advice while navigating complex policy challenges that impact the local government sector. With a strong analytical approach you will contribute to legislative and regulatory programs by synthesizing diverse perspectives collaborating across agencies and ensuring compliance with evolving frameworks. Your expertise in interpreting legislation will be key to guiding decision-makers enabling informed policy discussions and translating complex requirements into actionable solutions.
Operating in a high-volume and often sensitive environment you will apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to balance competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and strategic focus. Your ability to anticipate challenges evaluate policy impacts and engage stakeholders effectively will be instrumental in driving successful outcomes. Staying ahead of contemporary trends in local government you will conduct research prepare policy documents and actively contribute to shaping programs that align with broader government objectives. This role demands a proactive mindset resilience and a commitment to delivering high-quality policy outcomes in a fast-paced and evolving landscape.

About You:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to break down complex issues and present concise well-structured briefing notes for decision-makers.
Proven ability to interpret legislation ensuring compliance and effective policy development within a government context.
Extensive experience working within government understanding regulatory frameworks policy processes and stakeholder dynamics.
Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to provide clear actionable insights in high-pressure environments.
Effective communicator who can translate complex legislative and policy concepts into accessible language for diverse audiences.
Experience engaging with government stakeholders navigating inter-agency collaboration to achieve strategic outcomes.
Strong attention to detail and critical thinking to assess legislative impacts and provide well-informed policy recommendations.
Key knowledge and experience
Knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms of government its operating environment and governing legislation.
Essential requirements
Appropriate tertiary qualifications or equivalent relevant professional experience and training.
