Austal is Australias global shipbuilder Defence prime contractor and maritime technology partner of choice designing constructing and supporting defence and commercial vessels for the worlds leading operators. The company operates in Australia the USA Philippines and Vietnam.
Austal Australia is delivering multiple naval shipbuilding and sustainment programs for the Royal Australian Navy Australian Border Force and the Department of Defence employing approximately 1000 people in facilities in located Western Australia Queensland and the Northern Territory.
About the Opportunity
Austal Ships has secured a landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) with the Commonwealth of Australia supporting the national vision for a sustainable and continuous naval shipbuilding industry.
As the Commonwealths Strategic Shipbuilder in Western Australia Austal is proud to lead this transformative initiative. The SSA will drive significant growth across our industry and workforce as we deliver both existing and new programs under this long-term partnership.
This agreement enables the design and construction of vessels at our Henderson Shipyard beginning with the delivery of Landing Craft Medium and Heavy for the Australian Army. It marks a major step forward in establishing enduring shipbuilding capability within the Henderson Precinct and across Western Australia.
To achieve this we are building a highly skilled team and engaging with local industry and supply chains. The SSA offers a unique opportunity to work on complex large-scale projects that reflect Austals proven capabilities and trusted performance.

We are currently seeking Naval Architects Electrical and Mechanical Engineers along with Drafting & Modellers ideally with proven experience in vessel design or a similar related field. If youre ready to take your career to the next level and be part of something bigger we want to hear from you.
Essential Criteria
- Australian Citizen
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical) or equivalent
Desirable
- 5 years experience in ship design and construction
Due to the Security Clearance required for this position applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
