Job Description

Position: Endowed Chair Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology

Rank/Title: Professor and Chair Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology Primary Location: University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Oklahoma City OK

Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and accomplished individual to serve as Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. The successful candidate will be a nationally recognized leader with a strong reputation for research excellence and superior teaching. As Chair they will play a pivotal role in shaping the departments futureattracting and mentoring the next generation of educators and leaders in biostatistics and epidemiology.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and strategic leader with a proven track record of managing complex units. They will bring the vision and skill set necessary to help elevate the university to its next level of excellence. This individual will contribute to expanding the program across the state while effectively overseeing and supporting a large varied team of staff students and faculty. A strong commitment to student-centered values and respect for the student experience is essential along with the ability to foster a culture of accountability and innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide visionary leadership for the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology overseeing its academic and administrative activities.

  • Maintain a thriving and collegial work environment for faculty staff and students.

  • Foster a culture of excellence in research teaching and service within the department.

  • Attract mentor and develop faculty members who demonstrate potential for outstanding contributions to the field.

  • Develop and implement a robust mentoring program for young faculty members and students nurturing their professional growth and success.

  • Promote interdisciplinary collaborations and initiatives both within the department across the college and health sciences campus and with public health and biomedical professionals agencies and associations in the state region and nationally.

  • Enhance the departments national and international reputation through innovative research and scholarly activities.

  • Advocate for resources and support to advance the departments mission and goals.

  • Engage with external stakeholders including government agencies industry partners and professional organizations to promote the departments work and impact.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in biostatistics statistics epidemiology or a related field who is tenured or tenure-eligible at the current rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • A distinguished record of scholarly achievement including a strong publication record and external funding.
  • Participation in development of curricula for undergraduate public health students.
  • Active membership and engagement in relevant professional service organizations.
  • Active engagement with the public.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience in academic administration and management.
  • Experience in working with an applied public health setting such as a government agency or state or local health department.
  • A track record of successful mentorship of junior faculty members and students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with varied stakeholders.
