Salary: MPS SEN allowance (2679) or UQT special allowance pay award pending

Hours of work: Full time 32.5 hrs per week

A bit about us:

Downland School is a co-educational maintained community special school for pupils aged between 10 and 16 who have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Our pupils have varying aptitudes and abilities; we are extremely proud of all their achievements and progress. Our pupils have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) including: Autism (ASC); attachment disorders and Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. We seek to ensure that by the time they leave us our pupils emerge as self-confident individuals able to manage their own learning; equipped with the skills and competencies to successfully take the next steps in their lives.

All about the role:

We are now looking to appoint independent living skills facilitator at Downland School.
Working within the new alternative provision centre to support the personalised development of members of the schools cohort; develop personalised and bespoke learning opportunities to overcome barriers and meet SEND needs.

You will ensure that resources and activities to secure engagement and maximise participation are appropriate well-implemented and secure positive outcomes.

As a school we place a strong focus and invest heavily on the core skills the post-holder must be able to teach both numeracy and literacy acquisition.

Key areas of work will include:

Prepare deliver and evaluate an independent living curriculum as part of a bespoke offer to meet individual and small cohorts needs

Co-produce a curriculum that is appropriately designed balanced relevant and personalised; taking account of pupils previous educational experience and where possible specific areas of interest

Deliver all sessions using adaptive techniques and ensuring a high level of engagement

Keep abreast of new developments in the subject area including links to employment. Engage proactively in a wide range of SEND training

Support pupils learn self-regulation and develop their social emotional learning and skills

Work with the whole school team to support all aspects of behaviour and relationship management generating high levels of engagement and progress

Be responsible for ensuring effective communication (the right information to the right people at the right time) with all stakeholders

Ensure that appropriate assessments are used that generate relevant performance data to indicate progress in relation to the EHCP outcomes

Monitor and evaluate pupil progress against a range of measures through agreed processes and report outcomes as and when required e.g. school reporting EHCP Annual Review contribution etc

Participate in scheduled Supervision and Line Management meetings as required

Be familiar with the SEN Code of Practice for identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs and other key legislation related to specialist education

Enthusiasm and commitment to working with and raising achievement for pupils with SEND is paramount to us; you will be expected to actively demonstrate the schools core values and embrace The Downland Way.
