Job Description

Do you have a passion for making a real impact on local communities Do you have experience in investigative work Do you thrive in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment If so Mid Sussex District Council is looking for a talented and motivated Planning Investigation Officer to join our Enforcement team.

About the Role

As a Planning Investigation Officer in the Enforcement team you will play a key role in undertaking investigations in relation to alleged breaches of planning control and enforcing the Councils planning decisions. You will be a strong team player with a flexible approach to your work and an excellent communicator.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a wide-raging caseload of investigations.
  • Negotiating resolutions to planning breaches.
  • Defending the Councils position at appeal.
  • Ensuring that all stakeholders are kept up to date in the progress of your investigations and applications.
  • Keeping yourself up to date with changes in planning law policy and guidance.

About You

To excel in this role you will need:

  • A genuine interest in and enthusiasm for protecting the built and natural environment.
  • Experience in investigative work ideally within a public facing setting.
  • Some knowledge of planning legislation and enforcement.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide detailed technical advice and present complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • The ability to manage your own varied workload.
