Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean of the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science the Department Chair oversees the orderly administration of their department school or program. This position is responsible for the management of department staff and faculty (e.g. assignment of work merit promotion and tenure); the quality of its educational program; and the maintenance of high standards in teaching and scholarship/creative work on the part of its faculty. This includes taking care of tasks ranging from necessary administrative details and processes (e.g. planning the instructional program preparing and administering the budget ongoing collaboration and communication with RSECS and DU administrators and staff) and leading it in medium term and strategic planning. Further this position not only serves as an advocate and supporter of the individual department school or program but also as a part of RSECS leadership with expectations for considering and serving the needs of all RSECS students staff and faculty. The Department Chair is an institutional authority responsible for knowing following and enforcing all institutional policies as well as being a positive influence on the culture of their program and the university.
This is a 12-month per year part-time administrative appointment during which the faculty member will retain responsibilities for teaching and scholarship/creative work and continue to accrue time towards sabbatical. The typical term for this position is three years with term retention renewal and selection processes being governed by departmental by-laws and approval of the dean. The terms match the fiscal year starting on July 1 and ending on June 30. Only faculty within the departments with openings are eligible and further eligibility and selection criteria are governed by departmental bylaws.

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday Friday 8:00 am 4:30 pm faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught service commitments and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on theregistrars website(the law school is on a semester system and has a differentacademic calendar).

Compensation
The annual compensation for thispart-time administrative appointment is $26830.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
