Primary Purpose:
The Energy Specialist is responsible for developing implementing and monitoring the school districts energy management program to reduce energy consumption utility costs and environmental impact. This position promotes energy efficiency practices across all district facilities and engages stakeholders in sustainability efforts while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Energy Management Engineering Environmental Science Facilities Management or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 35 years of relevant experience in energy management facility operations or sustainability planning.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- LEED Accreditation (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
- Building Operator Certification (BOC)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with energy-efficient technologies building systems (HVAC lighting controls) and sustainability practices.
- Experience using energy management systems (EMS) and data analysis tools.
- Strong project management analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret technical data utility bills and building schematics.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes and environmental regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes energy audits and assessments at district facilities to identify opportunities for energy savings.
- Monitor and analyze utility usage (electricity natural gas water etc.) and track trends using energy management software.
- Develop implement and manage the districts energy conservation plan policies and long-term sustainability goals.
- Engage stakeholders by working with maintenance operations and capital projects teams to improve energy efficiency through HVAC optimization lighting upgrades building controls and other systems.
- Recommend and support the integration of renewable energy solutions such as solar panels where feasible.
- Develop and monitor reports on energy performance cost savings and program outcomes for district leadership and school boards.
- Serve as a liaison between the district and utility companies energy consultants contractors and governmental agencies.
- Educate and engage school staff students and the community on energy conservation practices.
- Explores and identifies applications for energy grants rebates and other funding opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with local state and federal regulations related to energy usage and sustainability.

- Work is performed both in an office setting and in field locations across district facilities.
- May require occasional evening or weekend hours for site assessments or board meetings.
- Must be able to climb ladders access rooftops and enter mechanical rooms safely.
