Job Title: Manager of Hospital Coding (Remote)
Location Requirement: Candidates must reside in Oregon Washington Alaska or Texas.
Position Overview:
This remote leadership role is responsible for managing the daily operations of a hospital coding team. The position ensures that diagnoses and procedures are accurately coded in compliance with internal policies legal standards and accreditation requirements. The manager will lead a team of coding professionals and oversee quality training and compliance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise inpatient and outpatient coding operations to ensure timely and accurate coding.
- Oversee hiring performance evaluations coaching and other personnel-related activities.
- Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures related to ICD and CPT coding.
- Resolve coding discrepancies and collaborate with vendor management teams.
- Monitor and address potential compliance risks and participate in internal and external audits.
- Enhance documentation and coding practices to optimize compliant revenue capture.
- Assist in budget planning and management for personnel equipment and operations.
- Lead educational initiatives on documentation and coding compliance.
- Analyze coding and reimbursement trends to identify areas for improvement.
- Provide support for the use of computer-assisted coding tools.
- May oversee the denials and appeals process related to DRG downgrades.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency with Epic EMR and 3M coding software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM CPT4/HCPCS MS-DRG APR-DRG and APC systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily sedentary work in an office environment.
- Frequent use of computers and office equipment.
- Requires visual acuity for data analysis and computer work.
- Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of medical coding experience.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership experience.
- Certifications: One or more of the following required:
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
