Job Description

We are seeking an Distributed Energy Resources Engineer with expertise in the integration of distributed generation systems and policy development. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of electric distribution system operations utility rate structures and the operational challenges of integrating distributed energy resources into the grid. The role requires a professional who can balance autonomy and teamwork with excellent communication skills for writing and reviewing policies related to distributed energy resource interconnections and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and analysis for the integration of seamless distributed generation into electric distribution systems.  Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations regarding distributed generation.
  • Assess utility rate structures and their impact on the adoption and integration of both flexible loads and distributed generation. Develop and explain rate analysis when appropriate.
  • Apply technical knowledge of electric distribution system design and operation in the interconnection process.
  • Understand the role and operations of RTOs and their effect on distributed energy resource policies and practices. Monitor RTO policies and ensure alignment with cooperative utility policies.
  • Write review and update policies and technical guidelines for the interconnection of distributed energy resources into the electric grid.
  • Provide technical guidance on distributed energy resources and flexible loads to internal teams member cooperative staff and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of strategies for increasing the integration of distributed energy resources and flexible loads.
  • Develop analysis tools write reports create presentations and provide training on distributed energy resource policies and systems.
  • Remain abreast of industry trends as well as best practices for distributed resource integration.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or 5 years of experience in the electric utility industry with a focus on distribution systems.
  • Experience with distributed energy resource technologies and interconnection processes.
  • Strong background in distributed energy resource integration electric distribution system design and utility rate structures.
  • Understanding of how RTOs operate and influence regional grid management.
  • Familiarity with AI and its potential utilization for enhancing resource integration into the grid.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience with energy efficiency applications within both residential and commercial applications preferred.
