Contract Type: Occasional / Freelance (as needed)
Location: Remote with potential for on-site visits across the United States initially Minneapolis.
We are looking for an experienced ISO/IEC 17025 Calibration Consultant to join our roster of independent experts on a contract basis. This role is project-driven involving flexible and occasional assignments to assist calibration laboratories or organizations in achieving maintaining or enhancing ISO/IEC 17025:2017 compliance.
The consultant will work autonomously providing technical guidance compliance support and documentation development aligned with U.S. regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
* Guide laboratories in developing updating and maintaining ISO/IEC 17025:2017-compliant quality systems and procedures.
* Conduct internal audits risk assessments and gap analyses against ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
* Assist in preparing documentation measurement uncertainty calculations calibration methods and audit readiness materials.
* Provide subject matter expertise on traceability proficiency testing and method validation.
* Support laboratories during A2LA ANAB or NVLAP accreditation processes including corrective actions.
* Deliver staff training on metrology calibration and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
* Advise on measurement equipment selection software integration and lab best practices across disciplines (electrical dimensional thermal mechanical etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
* At least 10 years experience working in or consulting for ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration laboratories.
* Solid understanding of metrology concepts measurement uncertainty traceability and technical records.
* Familiarity with U.S.-based accreditation bodies such as A2LA ANAB or NVLAP.
* Strong technical writing skills and audit-readiness expertise.
* Proven ability to work independently and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
* U.S. work authorization (citizen or permanent resident) and willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
* Prior experience as a technical assessor quality manager or internal auditor under ISO/IEC 17025.
* Knowledge of ANSI/NCSL Z540 NIST Handbook 150 or other U.S. calibration standards.
* Proficiency with calibration software and digital quality management systems.
