Position Summary
WBK Engineering (WBK) is currently seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with Stormwater and Water Resource Infrastructure Design and Modeling proficiency who will work within the Water and Environment Practice Group. This position will support the design efforts of projects for various Counties Municipalities IDOT the Tollway and various Federal Agencies. While the position is based out of our St. Charles Illinois office a mixture of time in-office and work-from-home will be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for performing water resource project design tasks for projects of moderate to large size and complexity with guidance from senior engineers. Design tasks include analysis report writing permitting and preparation of construction drawings and project specifications.
- Responsible for managing small to medium size projects and tasks. This may include developing and tracking project-specific schedules budgets and deliverables and delegating design tasks. Responsibilities may also include coordinating with clients and vendors.
- Technical assignments may include watershed hydrologic modeling stream and river 1-D and 2-D modeling dam breach analyses storm sewer design bridge and culvert hydraulic analysis flood mitigation general civil/site development and other related tasks.
- Designs will be performed with the use of AutoCAD or MicroStation software.
- Responsible for set up and execution of a range of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis software such as HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS.
- Additional assignments will include developing preliminary design studies and Project Reports completing quantity take-offs and checking design computations.
- Utilizing GIS in modeling and analysis of waterways and waterway crossings.
- Coordinate engineering plans and permit submittals to clients and regulatory agencies.
- Preparation of Engineers Opinion of Probable cost.
- Coordinate with transportation and structural engineers on waterway crossings and other structural elements of transportation projects.
- Client contact and ability to assist with scoping water resource engineering services and assist in development of fee proposals.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Education and Degree: Bachelors degree in an ABET accredited Civil Engineering program or related engineering field.
Required Experience and Certification:
- Five to twelve years of experience in a water resource or civil engineering position
- Ability to work independently solving complex problems
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois or ability to become licensed within a year
Desired Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Word Excel Outlook Projects and Teams
- Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation
- Experience with GIS experience
Working Environment
When not working from a home office remotely or onsite at a project location most of this role is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Occasionally there may be exposure to loud office or technical machinery during its operation.
Additionally this role may be required to attend site visits. During site visits there will be exposure to a variety of environmental conditions such as being outdoors being in indoor non-temperature-controlled environments and maneuvering in and around various terrains and construction environments.
Physical Demands
- Sitting/Standing: This role is generally sedentary performing sitting work utilizing technological office equipment including a laptop mouse keyboard computer monitors telephones and scanners copiers and fax machines. During site visits this role requires the ability to traverse various project and construction sites that will have uneven surfaces.
- Walking: This role requires the ability to move about inside the office to access technological equipment required for the role. During site visits this role requires the ability to traverse various project and construction sites that will have uneven surfaces.
- Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: This role may require stooping to reload printer trays with print paper. During site visits this role requires the ability to stoop kneel crouch and crawl to examine conditions and make recommendations to the clients for planning and improvements.
- Using Hands/Fingers: This role constantly operates technological office equipment such as laptop mouse keyboard computer monitors telephones and scanners copiers and fax machines.
- Talking/Hearing: This role requires constant communication with others in the organization to exchange information review information and make decisions about information.
- Seeing: This role requires the ability to view existing project sites and examine information to determine and make recommendations to the clients for planning and improvements.
- Carrying/Lifting: This role requires the ability to lift up to 20lbs to transport technological office equipment to and from various workspaces.
