PrimaryPurposeofPosition:

The Division ofParks and Recreation is seeking a Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer with enthusiasm to fill our Museum of ArtPark Ranger position. This position serves as field officer with full law enforcement authority to provide law enforcement security for the 164 acre campus at the North Carolina Museum of Art and includes the museum park.

KeyResponsibilitiesincludebutarenotlimitedto:

  • Responsible for demonstrating excellent customer service by providing visitor safety and protection located within North Carolina Museum of Art boundaries.
  • Enforcing state laws while engaging in parking lot and campus patrol via vehicle and/or foot patrols.
  • Recognizing emergency situations and taking appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Assisting Park guests as necessary to resolve complaints or problems.
  • Responding to safety or law enforcement issues inside park and other campus locations as necessary.
  • Providing first aid care for guests as needed.
  • Coordinating with local state or federal agencies as necessary.
  • Taking appropriate law enforcement action and testifying in court as needed.
  • Providing security assistance for large events inside the Museum of Art.

Position/Physical Requirements:
  • Prior to Employment: Selected candidates are required to have successful results in physical and psychological examinations to include drug testing and a background investigation as required by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards Commission.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may include day evening night weekend and holiday as necessary.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license within 90 daysof employment.
  • Considered Emergency Staff and may be required to work on adverse weather days during emergencies and special events.
  • Must possess and maintain a Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.
  • Housing is NOT available.

Within 12 months of hire date must have the ability to obtain and maintain:
  • SuccessfullycompleteCPRCertification

Within 30 months of hire date must have the ability to obtain and maintain:
  • SuccessfullycompleteEmergencyMedicalResponder(EMR)
  • Successfully complete Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR)

Veterans and National Guard Preference
