Job Description

First-Year & University Programs Pool

The Department of First-Year & University Programs within the Office of Undergraduate Studies at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an on-going basis for our pool of part-time lecturers. Teaching responsibilities within FY&UP include 3-unit first-year seminars 1-unit and 3-unit academic resiliency/success courses and 1-unit second-year seminars all of which aim to (1) support students in their transition to the academic and social demands of collegeand (2) support students in the psycho-social development of self and community including the development of personal values and goals for college and career success. Candidates should have experience working directly with students.

Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in thispoolad will only be good for the current academic year. Thispoolwill be closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year you will need to apply to the newpoolas it becomes available by June 15th.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A masters degree
  • Demonstrated ability in working with students to facilitate their transition from high school to college.
  • Per the California State Universitys Out-of-State Employment Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in education teaching and learning instruction and curriculum development or in the area of adult education.
  • Previous college-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students particularly first-generation students to facilitate their transition to the academic and social demands of college.
  • Understanding of CSU undergraduate general education requirements and ability to direct/guide students toward the necessary information/resources for developing an academic plan and career goals.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving a diverse campus community as it relates to teaching and as applicable service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • AnticipatedHiring Salary Range: $5507 - $6677 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer A - AY: $5507 - $6677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer B - AY: $6221 - $13224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience.
